Big fan of Rush, but i never got to see them live, only have their DVDs. As far as Dream Threatre I love portnoy, love Myung, love Rudess, love Petrucci, but I hate James LaBrie. Here you have some of the best musicians in their own feilds, and then you have such an average vocalist. I got to see them live, and they were amazing (when LaBrie was off the stage and let the rest do their own thing)

1. DANNY CAREY

3. Terry Bozzio
4. mike portnoy
5. Jon Theodore

Now the ffirst four are a fact, and if you haven't checked out Mars Volta please do. Jon is one of the most exciting drummers i'v ever seen, except GOD(Danny Carrey)
There is nothing factual about this list, i wouldnt have a problem if you admited it.

Bill Bruford >>> Mike Portnoy.

And Danny Carey is NOT the best drummer of all time, hes close, but no.

Some on here have very strong will power, but the majority can't stand LaBrie eather.

But I've have had enough DT talk for one year...

Facts only to me, I guess. If Carey isn't the best, who is? I've studied and seen most drummers playing, though i haven't seen Bozzio yet. I still dont see anyone as complex as Carey. I have seen him play almost every kind of music from jazz to metal. Sorry, he just always blows my mind, and never disapoints. Another masterpiece comes out in May. Any secret Tool details anyone?

I don't think you can compare those two. Danny Carey is an excelent jazz drummer, but if you put Cobham behind Carey's drumset there's no way he could create what Danny does. Even the best of jazz drummers just can't keep up with the guys on my list. Carey, Bozzio, Peart don't stop in the genre of jazz drumming, thats what makes them great. They are geniuses on all kinds of drumming. So a jazz drummer that can't also go ballistic on a 25 piece set won'tget my vote for greatest. For me, comparing jazz to metal or prog is tricky

I seriously disagree, sure playing in different styles is impressive, but some styles are simply more dificult to master than others, of course every genre requires talent of some kind, but jazz just requires more precison and complexity, especialy in the drumming, you may not notice it because some jazz drummers dont let it all come out like say Keith Moon or John Bonham, but what they do is MUCH harder to copy than you think.

Anyone can dabble in different styles for maybe one song, anyone can learn a few blues licks here, a few jazz licks there, maybe one flamenco lick, but that dosent make you versatile.

Not saying Carey isnt versatile, but hopefuly you will get my point, Cobham is a master of his respected genre, some consider him the best jazz drummer around.

Yes I do get your point. Cobham is one of the best JAZZ drummers around, and definitly the best i've ever seen(saw in Chicago an New Orleans) But Ive also seen Carey in jazz clubs and he blew my mind, and think he can go toe to toe with any jazz drummer and thats not even his specialty. The drummers I mentioned don't just dabble,it's not a lick here a lick there, they mastered it. Maybe to your simple metal drummers like Lars or someone, jazz is more complex and pricise, but compared to Carey, Peart, or Bozzio's work, there is no chance. Trust me, I have tried. It just does not stop at jazz, there is more to being the best overall drummer.

Ryan, since you say you've heard every drummer in the world, what do you think of Asgeir Mickelson? I kinda forgot about him, but he's the perfect example of sorta playing like Carey but takes Carey's boring playing to the next level and is thus 10^244325 times better than him.
When I say Mickelson sorta plays like Carey I mean he is like the good version of Carey. Like how Dragonforce are the good version of Iron Maiden.
