Drummers don't matter that much too me. I don't think there was ever a point in music where I say 'The drummer really ruins the song for me'. Maybe over-drumming, but eh that rarely happens. Same thing with bass guitar, rarely ruins a song.
But I'll take what is probably the best filler ever, Keith Moon. |

Since I started re-examining System of a Down, I've come to realize how excellent a drummer John Dolmayan is. His fills are superb, and he's got great mechanical energy and finesse.
Don't hold it against him just because he looks normal. =P

What frickin' year is this? I was part of this same debate (minus Danny Carey) in 1987 and I'm sure it happened in 1977 and 1997 as well. And like 20 years ago people still have their high and mighty attitudes because they've decide on this one particular style of drumming as the gold standard and they mock anyone with a different opinion.
What was Bonham listening to? Funk ballads is what. Step out of your little boxes once and while. Or we could just listen to Led Zeppelin IV and 2112 for the 972nd time. "HEY HEY MAMA..." |
