After this and your probably into their worst period with the final album in their pop phase Hold Your Fire and the move back into rock territory with Presto and Roll the Bones, are all pretty bad albums in fact things don`t get much better until Counterparts. Their real return to to form though is probably with Vapour Trails their heaviest in some time even. Can`t comment on their most recent Snakes and Arrows as I`ve yet to hear it.

All in all they make one hell of an impact for three musicians as did Cream before them.

Also check out their live albums again impressive stuff and if you want to just be impressed by Neil Peart`s drumming then check out the Live in Rio dvd especially the song O Bateria (Drummer in english) impressive stuff from a veteran drummer.

I`m sure there are dedicated Rush fans out there that can give you a better perspective but this is something to start on

vince rogers was the drummer for three-piece math marauders tera melos. i've been lucky enough to see him live twice, once in dekalb and once in chicago. now, people argue over whether his role in the band was as prominent as nick or nate's (guitarist and bassist, respectively), but if you listen to pretty much any of tera melos's music you'll instantly recognize vince's intense drumming style. he is one of the most technically sound drummers i've ever heard, and he eventually left the band to be a college professor at UC Berkeley. dude's so smart he has a PhD in mathematics, and he's also one of the nicest guys i've ever met.

he's better than all of the guys on this list.

I couldn't name just one. I'm a pretty lousy drummer myself but there's quite a few drummers that are really great and simply play amazing: Dave Weckl, Jeff Porcaro, Neil Peart.

It also depends on what you're into. I don't like drummers who are technically very skilled but kill a song by playing too many notes (Mike Portnoy, Jimmy Chamberlain). Others are really good at playing solo's (Terry Bozzio) and others are great at playing grooves (David Garibaldi, Vinny Colauita).

Some are great rock drummers (Danny Carey, Stewart Copeland) and then there are some awesome jazz drummers (Antonio Sanchez, Brian Blade, Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez). And there are many legends like Buddy Rich, Max Roach, Art Blakey, John Bonham.

All these drummers are great and worth checking out. And the list just goes on and on

After a healthy dose of Tool tonight, I am bloody impressed with Danny Carey's drumming.... purely freaking awesome!

well i dont have five but i think buddy rich and theres a small band called screaming mechanical brain but the drummer is amazing!! i get to see them this friday!!
