Laces Out Dan! 11-23-2005 07:12 PM

Dragon Force is Power Metal....and i listen to them

sleepy jack 11-23-2005 07:17 PM

Uhh...and..im confused...theres a metal sub genre called "epic metal" now!??!

Merkaba 11-23-2005 07:23 PM

Epic Metal is a subgenre of heavy metal music.

It lies between power metal, speed metal, melodic metal and classical heavy metal with a balance between slow and solemn hymns and the occasional outburst into powerful mid-tempos, epic metal includes some themes found in epic poetry and fantasy themes; they're not the only themes, however, and lighter elements like bikes, women, and a healthy amount of self-apology are just as frequent. A typical property of epic metal is a certain grandiose element and a penchant for trumpets, violins or even a full orchestra accompaniment.

Sounds a little queer but a sub-genre none the less. Apparently bands like Manowar fall into this category.

Laces Out Dan! 11-23-2005 07:29 PM

Apparently they do but i dont see it to tell you the truth.....Id say the most Epic Metal bands that i know of right now Are Blind Guardian and Rhapsody...Like i said before

Everyone of my metal e-friends says so and they know 832743948 times more then me and you.

Merkaba 11-23-2005 07:36 PM

Lets just say you won't get any answers here as no one even believes in the genre Lespaul.

Hell it's basically heavy metal with talk of Unicorns.

Laces Out Dan! 11-23-2005 07:39 PM

Dude....Unicorns = Lame
Dragons and lord of the rings = Own

Isn't metal singing about dragons and such power metal though?!

Laces Out Dan! 11-23-2005 08:35 PM

Yes......But blind Guardian doesnt talk about that......i was just simply pointing out that out of mystical creatures....Dragons and whatnot own unicorns

sleepy jack 11-23-2005 10:24 PM

http://www.darklyrics.com/lyrics/bli...soffear.html#3

Laces Out Dan! 11-23-2005 10:35 PM

No i dont care for your opinion......BG is Melodic/Epic

sleepy jack 11-23-2005 10:37 PM

Whatever.

Laces Out Dan! 11-23-2005 10:39 PM

Alright......we can agree to disagree

Born Again Problem Child 11-24-2005 03:56 AM

I'd suggest Halloween, particularly KOTSK (Pt II is my fav). They certainly seem to fall into the descriptions given of "epic metal" (that's a new one on me, too!), though I consider them power metal. Of course, when I first started listening to them in the 80's, it was just plain old heavy metal to me.

I don't really give a rats which sub genre things fall into, as long as I like it. I usually have an idea or opinion of what *I* think it is, and I'm happy to view it that way rather than argue pointlessly about it :)

riseagainstrocks 11-24-2005 07:39 AM

Epic metal just sounds lame.

it's not being included in the Metal Education thread.

Blind Guardian is power metal by the way. lyrical themes, drum patterns, and guitar melodies prove that.

Manowar blows anyhow

sleepy jack 11-24-2005 11:35 AM

^word

ManOwar is awesome in all their cheesy lame lyricsness and glory..

Laces Out Dan! 11-25-2005 06:33 PM

Blind Guardian is Epic...and for cheesey bands...Lost Horizon is tight

Merkaba 11-25-2005 09:28 PM

Your missing the point, Epic is Power metal with probably such minor differences that some fat guy decided to create a new sub genre out of boredom.

If Epic Metal = 12334256346
than Power Metal = 12334256346 + 1

Thats how different they are.

Merkaba.
You kick ass.

Laces Out Dan! 11-26-2005 06:40 PM

yeah you have a point......but out of the two genres id prefer to label them as Epic/Melodic Power metal to me always just seems more happy and hoyfull

sleepy jack 11-26-2005 07:02 PM

Yeah and im gonna label the misfits ghoul/horror punk cause it sounds better  theyre power metal get over it.

riseagainstrocks 11-26-2005 07:17 PM

It is epic sounding . but the style is still Power Metal.

Laces Out Dan! 11-26-2005 08:30 PM

Ok this is for anyone with any further input on whether they are Epic or Power.....Eveyone here can agree to Disagree all right

hmmmm that clarifies it for me i was getting a little confused here.

TheBig3 11-27-2005 07:01 PM

and this is why metal sucks, the people that listen to it have no social skills and too much time on their hands to make up stupid sub-sub-genres.

Then music nerds take time to know the diffrence.

You didn't invent anything, this is how those metal dorks describe bands like Metallica and Megadeth now that we've thrown skill to the dogs and have better technology.

Hmmm...

Seriously, i dont know what you are saying if you think modern metal takes little skill, it takes a lot of technical ability.

But i do agree that most of it sucks the sweat off a dead mans balls.

TheBig3 11-27-2005 08:33 PM

I suppose I should have specified, the skill is all instrumentational, there no almost no vocal skill in anything that ends in -core or anything of the death metal bands.

And song writing, holy ****, track changes are just silence between the noise.

There are always exceptions though, Between The Buried And Me and Opeth have some very good vocals.

The bands i have problems with are ones like COB and Hatebreed.

TheBig3 11-27-2005 09:08 PM

well you know what they say, einmal ist keinmal
