Are Pear Jam still around?

well...?

mr naga 11-27-2005 04:21 AM

By Pear Jam I mean Pearl Jam!

Oops.

Pear Jam indeed

cardboard adolescent 11-27-2005 12:40 PM

yeah they are

from what I've heard though, Vedder's voice has kinda gone to ****.

right now they're touring south america, but they should be coming through here sometime soon.

riseagainstrocks 11-27-2005 01:10 PM

a much better question is why were they around in the first place?

cardboard adolescent 11-27-2005 01:51 PM

if it hadn't been for pearl jam and nirvana bringing alternative styles into the mainstream do you really think you would be listening to rise against today?

I mean c'mon, listen to Ten, or VS for that matter.

sleepy jack 11-27-2005 03:33 PM

Oh come on, if you liked Nevermind, then you should like Ten, have you heard it?... Even if you did, maybe you should give it another listen, after a while it will grow on you, trust me. ;)

But i cant stand eddie vedders vocals.

Well, i just let the vocals grow on me, they do eventualy...The music itself is just too good.

Anyway dont talk to me about vocals, you are talking to a Rush fan here. :D

my grandmoother made me a jar of pear jam, it was disgusting stuff, so it is still around although it is deep in my cabinit, and is smelling worse and worse as time goes on. Ewwww.

idowhatiamtold 11-28-2005 01:43 PM

I prefer blackberry jam myself... never cared too much for the apricot or the pear jams...

they are.

Kashmir86 11-28-2005 02:26 PM

huckelberry jam is really good

Kashmir86 11-28-2005 02:27 PM

i kind of like the name blackberry jam, that sounds like some sort of spinoff of phish or somethin.

cardboard adolescent 11-28-2005 02:43 PM

Since we're going completely off-topic, I have that poster in my room... Kashmir's avatar.

cherrychic 11-28-2005 02:47 PM

half_baked87 11-28-2005 03:06 PM

^ wtf? lol

but back to the REAL topic here. i'm pretty sure they're still around, they're last studio album was in 02, but it was pretty weak. i had tho opposite effect with vedders voice, i could tolerate it for a while, but then it just started to piss me off more and more. pearl jam overall is pretty damn lame.

Just because a band is influential doesn't mean you have to like them.

yes.

antman188 11-28-2005 03:37 PM

I like Pearl Jam; I like Vedder's voice too. It's not over-the-top, he's not trying to impress people or anything with fancy singing or crap like that. Their lyrics are very good as well.

Good Charlotte hasnt influenced ****, the only people they influence are record companys who shape bands into the same mold as Good Charrlotte simply because it sells records, no one starts a band because they felt moved by Good Charlottes music, they just imitate a popular band to make some quick cash.

Pearl Jam is different, bands are influenced by them because they really admire the band, not because its a marketable sound...Do you think they sell all those records because they are a commercial band?...Hell no, with no commercial marketing, no major singles since Ten, no music videos or any MTV exposure?... I dont think so.

They sell records because they are good records.

No it isnt, we are talking about MUSICAL INFLUENCE, not cultural influence or anything like that, influencing record companys and radio stations to play certain kinds of music isnt musical influence, because they didnt influence the actual music, they just influence the way the music is marketed...To have some kind of musical influence with any real significence, you have to influence actual musicians first.

As long as i can remember, no pop punk band has actualy called Good Charlotte a influence.

 Agree...most definitely agree

"To have some kind of musical influence with any real significence, you have to influence actual musicians first"

If you influence the listeners, the bands that you (the record company) never let them hear about will be the ones to fall. Influencing them is enough. The listeners are the ones who make the bands. You can't possibly think that what people hear doesn't affect most musician's styles.

It dosent, the musicians make up the styles of their music and sound, not the fans, record companys market certain bands and songs to meet the demands of consumers, that has nothing to do with the music...You think King Crimson would change their sound to be more commercial and popular?...Nope. Bands and Songs do become popular because of the fans, but the fans dont write the songs, and they dont market the songs.

Thing is, the radio and MTV are made only to appeal to big audiances, not little ones, so they market music they appeal to whole sub-cultures, but more ambitious and underground music is ignored completely, simply because mainstream radio MTV dosent want to take risks, they are not gonna play anything that they are not sure will sell records, they just sell whats popular, and market the living hell out of it.

So if you want to hear new music instead of the same crap over and over, i recomend you download music illegaly...Because that will be the only way you are gonna find what you are looking for.

SuperPseudonym 11-28-2005 04:38 PM

The fans are the next bands.

and if the bands you look for arent in some measure of popularity, you wouldn't know about them, unless they are local bands.

franscar 11-28-2005 04:41 PM

Yeah, Pearl Jam are great. Belong to a very cool period for music that will be looked back on fondly in years to come.

mosesandtherubberducky 11-28-2005 04:41 PM

boo boo could you for once not try to start an argument and leave it at that...

agree to disagree?
