single most greatest cover ever?

this comes to mind as i listen to the white stripes version of "jolene", which; in my opinion, is the greatest cover EVEEEEEERR. how about yours?

Hypnotised or Mesmerized 11-28-2005 02:51 PM

well i always liked marilyn mansons version of tainted love and i am liking ozzy osbournes cover of the beatles in this life its good

half_baked87 11-28-2005 02:53 PM

johnny cash's cover of soundgardens rusty cage is bad ass. but i also really like system of a down covering the metro, they kick that songs ass.

bungalow 11-28-2005 02:57 PM

I believe this thread has been done already not to long ago.

but...I like the Social Distortion cover of Ring of Fire.

cherrychic 11-28-2005 02:58 PM

social distortion's cover of johnny cash's ring of fire

Sneer 11-28-2005 02:59 PM

your belief is well founded. but you didnt have to reply to it to be fair.

Fenixpunk 11-28-2005 03:00 PM

Sepulturas cover of Motorheads Orgasmatron

right-track 11-28-2005 03:07 PM

I've posted this cover before in other threads.
My opinion is that the Bauhaus version of Bowie's, 'Ziggy Stardust' is without doubt the greatest kickarse cover ever.

kob 11-28-2005 05:47 PM

korn- love my way,, great cover!!

mosesandtherubberducky 11-28-2005 06:32 PM

Johnny Cash's version of Hurt by Nine Inch Nails. I saw the video a few weeks ago, and I nearly cried. What a legend

Kempson 11-29-2005 11:09 AM

Metallica doing Whiskey in the jar
Pantera doing Paranoid
Children of Bodom doing Aces High, Oops I did it again

Musicologist 11-29-2005 03:51 PM

Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt is really moving, but it's really over played right now on TV. I love Cardigan's Iron Man

PopIsDead 11-29-2005 03:55 PM

I like Radiohead's cover of "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd.

MrFloyd 11-29-2005 04:42 PM

Bowie

The white stripes cover is good no doubt, b ut my all-time favorite would have to be David Bowies "Let's spend the night together" originally done by the Rolling Stones.

Right-on right-track. I haven't seen Bauhaus mentioned here before, love them and that cover. This is my second Ziggy Stardust-related post in a row. I have to lay off.

I'm stuck between a couple of covers in particular, but yeah I swear I've made this post before.

Toots and the Maytals- Take Me Home Country Roads
Taj Mahal- Brown Eyed Handsome Man
Johnny Cash and Joe Strummer- Redemption Song
Tori Amos- Raining Blood

sleepy jack 11-29-2005 09:04 PM

A Global Threat "Were Not Gonna Take It"

antman188 11-29-2005 09:20 PM

Metallica - Turn the Page
Joe ****er - With a Little Help From my Friends (lots of people probly say that, but i like it)
Robert Plant - Hey Joe
Joe ****er - What's Goin On (from his new album, it's excellent)

these may not be the greatest, per se, but i like em

boo boo 11-29-2005 09:24 PM

Great covers.

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah

^ Best cover, period.

Blue Cheer - Summertime Blues
Van Halen - Ice Cream Man
Cream - Crossroads
Nirvana - Man Who Sold The World
Nirvana - Love Buzz
Nirvana - D7
Yes - America
ELP - Toccatta
Led Zeppelin - You Shook Me
The Doors - Gloria
Guns N Roses - Live and Let Die
Shawn Lane - All Along The Watchtower
RATM - Ghost of Tom Joad
Laurence Juber - Little Wing
SRV - Little Wing
RUN DMC - Walk This Way

antman188 11-29-2005 09:28 PM

^ Zeppelin's You Shook Me kicks ass! As does Cream's Crossroads.

ambuletz 11-30-2005 04:19 AM

Johnny Cash's cover of NIN's "Hurt". Cash plays that song with a feeling. I ****ing love it.

I knew i forgot something. *Smacks head*

Mr Sensitive 11-30-2005 08:25 AM

Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah is excellent and moving.

Kashmir86 11-30-2005 10:43 AM

srv - little wing
zeppelin - gallow's pole
crossroads - cream

a lot of good covers have been played by phish as well. (great gig in the sky, while my guitar gently weeps, freebird)

There are way more really bad covers out there than good ones. One that comes to mind that really pisses me off is korn's another brick in the wall. I can not put into words how much i hate that "band". . . :banghead: A lot of dylan songs have been redone, most of them not very well. Tambourine man was pretty good by the byrds though. big yellow taxi was horrible by the counting crows. Knockin on heaven's door is pretty good by guns n roses.

holdyoualways 11-30-2005 10:48 AM

in my opinion, covers usually suck. however, i downloaded and burned the 4 "punk goes" albums and listening to a few of them i have come to the conclusion that halifax's cover of straight up by paula abdul is the best out of them.

Sadly, No... Robert Zimmerman (aka Bob Dylan) wrote the song.
