I like to think a have fairly broad horizons, I'd give a list of my itunes playlist but you prolly don't care. I do listen to a lot of metal/ post-core however I listen to bands like Dream Theater, Iron Maiden Rise Against, Bad religion, Angra, Cannibal Corpse and Cage the elephant. I will fully admit although I like attack attack, I was never extremely fond of them. Like I liked them ok, but they're not even close to my favorite.

I am will to admit Attack Attack! is not THAT talented of a band and as far as metalcore goes their fairly average, however I still enjoy them.

Metal has its own culture, so getting the majority of general people to judge it is completely pointless. 80% (or so) of my peers listen to Justin Bieber, One Direction and Nicki Minaj, and couldn't define metal if they had a gun pointed at their head (I'm struggling at it, too). The majority of headbangers will say that heavy-, power- and whatever-metal is music sent by angels, and that nu metal and metalcore is utter crap.

Say you have $100. A small cheeseburger at McDonald's costs $2, but a premium steak at the restaurant right next to it costs $100, and there is a queue. What do you choose? Do you choose low-quality mass-produced junk food just because it's easy, cheap and everyone else does it, or the less "accessible" and expensive, but still tasty steak approved by people who know their stuff?

Decide for yourself what you think the burger is. And by the way, I think most people, of most ages, can admit to enjoying burgers on occasion.

I'd probably go with the burger so I don't waste all my money, needless to say that's irrelevant.
I like to think a lot of people have one or two "guilty pleasure bands." I have more than that, but the three that come to mind right away are Attack Attack, Black Veil Brides, and A Day To Remember.
(I've actually been convinced for the longest time if everyone got their heads out of their asses they would realized that BVB actually has some talent musicians. I mean Alice Cooper called them the best modern hard rock act. ALICE ****ING COOPER)

I'd choose chicken breast. It's cheaper than a steak, healthier and when prepared the right way really tasty. You can also eat a lot of it without getting fat since it's low calorie meal and it's great for building/maintaining muscle.

So between heavy metal and metalcore, you'd choose like, folk or something?

Actually I was just saying I prefer chicken, I wasn't speaking metaphorically :P.

I understand why some metalcore, like BMTH and Attack Attack are hated but then again there is heavy metal like this

Ok, it's not as bad as Attack Attack but isn't that far away either. They just look, sound and move ridiculous. And that's actually "respected" "heavy" metal. There is Nu Metal heavier than that and I(and most people for that matter) wouldn't even classify Nu Metal as metal.

I find it interesting you chose the one Van Halen song that was totally different to everything they'd done before it and not really about what they were about at the time.

What's wrong with Run to the Hills? Sure, it's not that aggressive, but I don't think that's required. Also, Jump isn't representative of Van Halen's music. Not representative of metal in general. And yes, nu metal is more aggressive than a lot of heavy metal, but there's no way it's better because of that.
