I would say in the early 2000's this was the norm. However most metalcore bands today have kinda gotten rid of the scene look. Granted BMTH doesn't show this, but look at DAnny Worsnop from asking alexandria. He used to have the scene look, but then I guess he grew up and got rid of it.
Then there's metalcore bands like As I Lay Dying or All That Remains that have the look or normal metal bands, and should be considered straight up metal

Didn't Asking Alexandria come out and say they were going 'thrash metal' :laughing:
They did like a Skidrow cover album or something.
I remember BMTH thinking they had invented post metal a year back.
Oli Sykes said in an interview;
