my first post:thoughts on CoandCa

Yeah, Coheed is not emo AT ALL. Emo started out as a hardcore term for emotional music, it started out deep. Newer bands and their fans have tainted the term by calling it emo. I dont mind some of the new bands, but its when they, or mainly their fans, begin to call it emo that pisses me off.

But, to the point of the thread, my friend introduced them to me about a year and a half ago and up to this day I still hate Claudio's voice with a passion and I want to cut his hair. I saw a picture of the band and he had short hair, it really wasn't bad. But the music they create is great. Guitars are amazing(I believe they have 2, claudio and another, correct me if I'm wrong). But there are better bands out there.

wow that dude really didn't let anything slip.. But! i don't agree with the three different grenes that he thinks are mixed into one to make this band.. i can't even say what type of music i think coheed are.. they just are!

but i guess i did come out learning something.. i am in fact a nerd.. but i think i always kind of new that...

C&C have none of the elements of emo, except the nasaly vocals and the primary reason for that is the Rush influence.

I thought they were one of the best bands of that genre (whatever that genre may be... what I mean is they're not easily categorised into indie, folk, blues, rock, funk, d'n'b or anything I listen to)

But yeah so then I went to see them live and they just didn't do it for me.

Has anyone else had this experience?

C&C are like a combination of metal, prog, punk, alternative, pyschedelic, pop and every other genre that has ever existed.

One of their albums has this weird intro, sounds like Beethoven.

Plus the classical influence is evident in the prog influence, most prog bands have classical influences.

i do se your point.. its strange that a band can have the sound of so many types.. but yet i'm still unsure about where i think they might fall... pop sounds like a safe bet..

Every rock genre has its pop influences, even prog, Yes were greatly influenced by The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel, The Byrds, Mamas And The Papas, Burt Bacherach, Frank Sinatra as well as Tin Pan Alley and Ragtime music, which were among the most popular genres around before Rock N Roll came along.

Punk too, i remember some punk bands listed The Monkees and The Archies among their influences. :D
