Rammstein- Other than they are German because thy do a great combinations of techno with Metal along with many other instruments. All thier music is so different from one and another it is like breath of fresh air.

Green Day- Funny thing is, the only reason why I like them so much is because I simply like alot of thier songs.

System of a Down- They make really inovative songs and are nice and loud.

I strongly disagree, Ferrys swaggering vocals is part of what makes Roxy Music Roxy Music, i love the Eno era the most, but all of them are great musicians, and they helped keep it together even without Eno...You cant blame a band just for trying to go in a different direction, even if they became more pop, they still made some very strong albums.

Siren is a fantastic album, check it out if you havent heard it.

I love Ferry`s vocals , I just hated the direction the band went into.

Led Zeppelin - Reasons you say?...I have four, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Bonham and John Paul Jones...Maybe not the best ensemble in terms of technical ability, but f*ck technical ability, like them or not, this band represented the 70s, i would cut my penis off just to have been there and see them live... The fact these guys are in my top 5 may come as a shock to those who think i would be into more sophisticated artists, but to hell with that too, Zeppelin rocked hard, but were very progressive and experiemental as well...Few bands can go from the proto punk of Communication Breakdown to a complex, beautiful ballad like Ten Years Gone...They were all fantastic musicians and performers, and unlike many bands they could both compromise and improvise, they could have composed a 20 minute symphonic rock suite if they wanted to, but they chose to play like wild animals, paving the way for metal and punk in the future.
Pink Floyd - Unlike most progressive rock bands, Pink Floyd were not really virtuoso musicians (Waters and Mason were inexperienced, Gilmour rarely did anything out of the minor pentatonic scale) but unlike their peers they could channel their music into places no other band could, they could be complex and enchanting without being technical and their music could be really beautiful and deep without being corny or sentimental...Barrett was a mad genius who burned out way too soon, but unlike most bands who would break up if their primary creative force left the band, Pink Floyd kept making music, and amazingly they evolved from a underground, unknown garage band to stadium rock super gods, Roger Waters lyrics hit a deep chord that no other 70s arena rock band could touch, and David Gilmour was no shredder by any means, but he played his guitar like it was some kind of spirital entity, his solos were like messages from the heavens (corny as hell i know, buts that the best way to describe it), just one note from his guitar leaves all technical wankers like Cooley and Batio in the dust...Like The Beatles they were a very versatile band, that could go from the kind of mellow pyschedelia that they were best known for to something like The Nile Song, walls of wild guitar noise that was basicly heavy metal before it even existed, and like The Beatles every album they made was a complete shock...Pink Floyd had me hooked first time i heard DSOTM, i have never fully recovered from the trance it put me in when i first listened to it...The Wall was the bands turning point, where they went for a darker, more rock oriented sound, they turned their backs on prog and never looked back, and bravely stood up against all the punk bands who considered them washed up dinosaurs, and they made one of the greatest albums of all time as a result.
The Who - This really goes without saying, when Rock N Roll died, The Who manged by inventing rock, they define everything rock music is about, and they embody everything music could be, energetic, powerful, rebelious, raw, beautiful, deep, emotional, colorful, experiemental, simple AND complex, punk AND progressive and of course, fun...Few bands could capture all those elements, but The Who could, hell, they could cram all those qualitys into ONE song, who else can do that?...And they were such a influence on so many bands, the power chord may have been around before The Who, but it was Townshend who made it a hard rock staple...They are probably the only band who had a deep influence on the development metal, punk AND prog...They always tried new things, went from simple, loud as hell pop songs like My Generation and I Can See For Miles And Miles in the mid 60s to more complex pieces of music in the late 60s and eary 70s with Tommy and Quadrophena and then arena rock gods with Whos Next and Live At Leeds...Most importantly, they had that f*ck everything attitude that The Sex Pistols would eventualy bring to the next level.

Sorry for the history lessions, i tried to be brief and short but dammit, im a ranter, its in my blood.

I could do so much more but im tired.

More to come.

soundgardenrox 03-17-2006 01:21 PM

Dinosaur Jr.- For a trio to be so melodic is insane. Plus who would expect an old alt. rock band to have a guitarist who could solo beyond the pentatonic? Plus, Jay Mascis and Lou Barlow create some of the most deep lyrics but yet simplistic. They have such melody yet can be heavy and hypnotic all at once. Jay Mascis's voice isn't the best, but again, its an alt. rock band and it's not about the vocals but the music and what he is saying.

Mars Volta- These guys must have taken some extreme drugs, because their music is beyond me. When I heard Deloused, I thought how could it be better? Frances the Mute proved me wrong. Omar can be as sloppy as hell but still a virtuoso at guitar. Cedric, well Cedric is just the second coming of Robert Plant. Plus the lyrics they comprise are flat out crazy but meaningful. Jon Theodore, the drummer, he is the sickest drummer you have ever heard, I wouldn't be surprised if he was better than Bonham at the same age. Ikey Owens creates a great ambience for Omar and Cedric to unleash their fury. Absolutley freakish. There isn't much more I can say, except, listen and be amazed.

under 03-19-2006 05:48 PM

 Linkin park-good music and sound

Metallica-good music structure

H.I.M-good meanings to their music and the way they write their music

Queen-just fun to listen to

Reznorlsave 03-19-2006 05:52 PM

NINE INCH NAILS-I don't think any other artist can capture the emotion of rage, loss and anger and translate it into music the way that Trent Reznor can. His songs can be beautiful or a sonic mess but either way, they have a touch of genius in them, both lyrically and sonically!

Tool - Maynard = best vocals ever
Dream Theater - I just like them, but i would like to slap James Labrie for his solo album
Opeth - Damnation is a great album

hoss diggity 03-20-2006 09:32 PM

metallica- 1st band that got me into metal (b4 hand i was listening to ****ty dance music)- song- enter sandman
killswitch engage- i love the guitars and howard jones vocals, song-rose of sharyn
shadows fall- guitar work is beautiful, love the dreds, song- a fire in babylon
mudvayne- fell in love with the original sound of the band, song - dig
slipknot - the fact that there were 9 guys in the band and they wore sweet masks and the sound was brutal, song - left behind
mushroomhead (pre break up)- the mix of the two singers made the music sound scary, plus the sweet masks, song - sun doesnt rise
system of a down - their sound is so much different from everyone else's, serj's vocals, song - sugar
children of bodom- 1st euro metal band, loved the fast guitars and the harmony, very melodic, song - every time i die
nightwish - heard it once on launch and fell in love, something about chicks and metal drives me wild, song - wish i had an angel
BLS- zack wylde is a master guitarist, i wish i could play as good as him, song - suicide messiah
theres too many metal bands that deserve on my list. this is just a shortened version

Nightwish is ****ing sweet. Tarja has an amazing voice. Wish I had that range. Unfortunately I can only hit a high E on a good day. I'm a mezzo-sop and proud of it.

Avenged Sevenfold(earlier stuff was great, sad that Shadows has to ease on the screaming)

Cradle of Filth(Dani has a strange tone in his screaming. The music is just beautiful in my opinion. Terrific stories. Damnation and a Day is one of the best albums ever.)

AFI(I like the later stuff, like Sing the Sorrow, nice riffs and Davey has a good voice)

My Chemical Romance(Like both old and new)

Mindless Self Indulgence(great band live, love the sound)

Weezer(From Blue Album to Make Believe, great band. Love the lyrics)

Red Hot Chili Peppers(Nothing I could say about this band would justify my love. Talented and wonderful)

No Doubt(I fell in love when they first came out with self titled No Doubt but they slowly wound down. Return of Saturn was the breaking point)

Modest Mouse(Weird vocals....dont like vocals too much, but lyrics are great and melodies are great)

Motley Crue(Also great live. Oh, what I wouldnt give to party with them. Nikki Sixx is a great wongwriter and he's a ****ing badass.)

HIM(Ville Valo has a great range and a nice crooner voice. nuff said)

Dresden Dolls(Just weird. Awesome lyrics)

HelloGoodbye(more of a pop-punk thing. But the tunes are catchy)

Pavement(strange mix of country, blues and rock. It just sounds good. They also did a great cover of "The Killing Moon" by Echo and the Bunnymen. They remind me of the Cure)

Lacuna Coil(Its nice hearing a frontWOMAN sometimes)

We Are Wolves(Also just really weird band. Kinda fun to listen to)

The Cure(I'm an 80s child at heart, born in the wrong decade. I mean, I can pull off the hair and I prefer 80s music to much of today's. I just love the Cure in all aspects....'cept Robert Smith's hair because he's scary to watch)

Xiu Xiu(Although there is one song that just scares me...I like the originality)
Hawthorne Heights(Really sucks live. But I still love Ohio is for Lovers. Call me a loser, I'll admit it)

69 Eyes(Just got into this band after hearing a demo. Sounds just like Type O Negative, but more meoldic. And Type O Negative does really bad covers)

Twisted Sister(I almost got a internship at the company that manages them. Oh, I would love to meet Dee Snider. He could kick anyones ass in makeup!)

Marilyn Manson(Love the sound, not nescessarily him. He is ****ed up in the head)

Ozzy Osbourne(Along with Black Sabbath. And who doesnt like Ozzy, c'mon)

Rammstein(All around fun to listen to)
and

Blind Guardian(really talented band, love the vocals. Interesting stories to tell through their lyrics.)

I think I got most of my favorite bands. I'm interested to read what everyone else has to say.
~Court~

Hello missy. I think the tag say "and why" you better be explaining or tomorrow I'll try to hit you.....or something.

bungalow 03-21-2006 06:15 PM

Neutral Milk Hotel- I swear, these guys are absolutely amazing. I could listen to In The Aeroplane Over The Sea every second of every day, and never get bored of the songs. Plus, they're from Elephant 6, based in....Georgia! So that makes them cool all by itself.

The Decemberists- I love how with all of Colin's lyrics, it is like he is re-telling a story. This band is catchy as hell, they have great lyrics, really fun band. The 'sailor-ish' thing they've got going is...strange, but it works. This band is absolutly great.

Belle and Sebastian- Twee at its best. Really great pop music. Every song is just as catchy as the last, and this band can be listened to for hours on end and you'll never tire. Not to mention the fact that, it seems as though they cannot make a bad album (we'll forgive storytelling)

Sigur Ros- I really love post rock, and I really love this band. As far as post rock goes, these guys run a close race with Explosions in the Sky. I bough (),and I downloaded all of their ither albums. Each one is brilliantly put together. All the songs flow, and have a really dreamy quality to them. Great Stuff.

Immortal Technique- One of the most intelligent rappers out there. He isnt afraid to wip out the big time words in his raps, or to face contraversial issues with his songs. Everytime I listen to Dance With the Devil, I always get the exact sane reaction out of myself. The tension builds and builds, untill the conclusion of the song, at which I am still shocked at hearing, even though I've listened through the song multiple times.

Stars- "When there is nothing left to burn, you must set yourself on fire" The fact that that is at the begining of the album, is just cool enough to land them a slot in my list of favorite bands. But the music that follows is just as great. Wonderful band, awesome way to intro an album. Well done Stars!

and last, but not least

U2- Haha, just kidding

claudioismybitch 03-21-2006 06:34 PM

here ya go

coheed and cambria( this has to be my fav band, they are blessed with amazing musical talents, all of them excpet having extensive musical backgrounds. if you love this band and wan to hear some crazy **** that claudio did with the orig name of the band and see what he was doing before coheed and laid off the drugs some, look up shabutie)

underoath( i love this band, they are hard, but ood vocals and songs you learn to love, whether you want to or not, they are definatly going places and i'll be there with them at every show that comes in the detroit area, fo sho)

COF( cradle is pretty amazing, i really did hate them the first time i heard them after seeing them i was out, but then i heard them for what they were, poetic and hard as hell, a definate fav these days, can't get enough)

from first to last( what can i say, i love many kinds and fftl is stylish vocals and good musical ability and nightmarish songs in general, a total reccomendation)

evanescence( amazing voice, metalish sound in the back ground, like nightwish, only more singable music)

atreyu
(amazing vocals and presence, they totally blow me away with every new thing i hear from them)

as i lay dying( totally awesome metal, dark, screaming, and wants me want to see them live more than anyone else right now)

HIM( really dark, deep sound that i can't get nough of, i look past the flamboyant sometimes irritatin image of the band, and just listen to the tunes, and it's all good)

say anything( i recently started to listening to this band, but they really are a unique revelant sound to me, i just makes me move my head and sing along with all the sings, and isn't that what music is supposed to do?)

ram jam
( i mean black betty is one of the best views on the 70's as i can put it, it shows the ideas and styles of that era and makes me so pumped up when i hear it)

johnny cash( dude man in black, he was revolutionary, when asked i cannot give you sepcific reason i enjoy this man so much, he's just who he is, a legend)

kansas( along with boston they're just amazing "carry on my wayward son" brings tears to my eyes to be honest, only amazing music can really affect you like that.)

bob dylan( tho his singing was a bit irritating at times, he is classic and you have to put respect where it's do)

boston( they're classic more than a feeling makes me so happy and carefree and nostalgic of my younger years it's worth listening to it so loud that i i'm experiencing permanent hearing damage b/c of it)

korn
(old **** only, they were really awesome when they first came onto the scene, but they are a we bit too commercial for me now, and like tim burton the ****ing ***goty goth kids had to mess them up as well as some other bands i used to hold in high regard)

system of a down( they're insanly talented, different and they rock hard, i love them i had to buy toxcicity several times and it was bloody worth every damn time)

blink 182
(yeah i said it this band was a huge part of life growing up in middle school seriously, they were everything to me then, them and system, they struck in a way that got me into music)

matisyahu( they're happy, hip hoppy reggae i like it, they also look like rabbis lol)

neil diamond( dude it's ****ing neil diamond, whats not to love, he started the feel good casino lounge singing, old women and i swoon to his melodic voice)

nightmare of you( you know personally why they're so sweet piper, you turned me onto them, new inventive, crazy lyrics and a great sound all togther)

throwdown( some of the best metal i've heard in a while, they're truly hard and get's you going, watch out if i'm in a crowded room and listening to this, there will be some moshing dammit)

terminal( all i thought when i heard these guys for the first time is "wow sundance here they come, so weird and independent movie feelish, but enjoyable)

smoking popes( amazing inventive and unique, what the who was in the 60's in my mind, tho indie and not my favs, they are pretty sweet)

FromFirstToLast- The lyrics explain alot about how I feel sometimes

HIM- Ville's got a great voice

Hawthorne Heights- Again explains how I feel alot

Avenged Sevenfold- The whole guitar thing is amazing

The Used- I'm a Fake explains how I used to be. (I used to cut and I realize now it was an attention whore thing)

That's most of my favorite bands.

Sebster17 04-12-2006 09:37 AM

Queens of the stone age because wen i went to europe i listened to them the whole time and now a year later, when i listen to Songs for the Deaf, they still remind me of the awesome time i had. Also, josh homme is an incredible musical genius because his lyrics are well thought out and full of metaphor's and what not, he's really good at putting songs together as well. There songs embodie everything that a true rock band should be.

PostPsychosis 04-12-2006 10:25 AM

Iced Earth- because despite starting up late in the metal game they are more innovative to the genres of thrash and speed metal than any other bands since Maiden and Metallica, despite not having the huge fan base those bands had.

Led Zeppelin- because they got me into rock.
