The Mars Volta are an absolutley insane band. I've seen one of their live performances of "Inertiatic ESP" and it was actaully quite amazing. Cedric has an exceptional singing style.

I own their CD and I have to say I think it is much better than Sparta or ATDI, but I think both are also great. Good songs off of it are "Inertiatic ESP" "Cicatriz ESP", or "A Drunkship Of Lanterns". It is difficult to get the flow of their music by just listening to one song at a time though. I think the only way to take in their music is to listen to the whole CD start to finish.

Anyways this is about Sparta. I've only heard the first single of their album. Cut Your Ribbon, and I really do like it, however I dont really view it as a progression from ATDI, especially since the lyrical writer of ATDI went to The Mars Volta. Its good though. I might pick up the album.

EDIT - The Mars Volta only have one full-length album out however they have the "Tremulant EP" that features a few songs that are much more similar in style to ATDI and Sparta. Harder to find than their album but equally good.
