Fad? It was mainstream for about 10 years.

And you can`t honestly say that punk wasn`t meant to the the antithisis of what prog was about. In fact I can recall most of the original punk bands saying they hated it and how out of touch they thought it was & that they wanted something off the street they could relate to.

True, thats what a lot of the first punk stood for. I have no idea why I mean I wasn't around at the time but apparently Punk thought Prog took away from the main theme/culture of rock. Rock was about rebellion and freedom and I guess Punk looked at prog and said theres nothing rebellious about an 8 minute song. Something along those lines anyway, punk wanted to bring back the punch. Make the music short and to the point.

I guess thats the contrasting nature between the two styles.

And then it died completely, thats why there are no hair metal bands today...Prog has lost popularity, but it never died, in fact its been getting a lot more popular in the past couple of years...And critics arent being as harsh as they used to be.

I never said it wasnt, but im saying it isnt impossible to like both, i like both, i have The Ramones, Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Buzzc0cks, The Damned, Patti Smith, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, The Minutemen, Husker Du, The Stooges, MC5, New York Dolls and Television all on iTunes...But that dosent mean i dont have room for Yes, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Genesis, Jethro Tull, Gentle Giant, ELP, Van Der Graff Generator, Camel, Rush, Frank Zappa, The Moody Blues, Hawkwind and Can.

And besides for a lot of punks it was just a put on so they could maintain their "rebelious" image, prog just happened to be the most popular thing at the time and they needed something to rebel against.

In fact, Johnny Rotten even admitted that his "I hate Pink Floyd" antics was just a put on, and he has confessed to being a HUGE Van Der Graff Generator fan...You can even hear some elements of prog in the Public Image Ltd, and of course this alienated a lot of hardcore Pistols fans.

I agree that prog was overexposed at the time, and that people needed something new to hear, im not denying punks importance by any means, im just doing my duty here by defending teh prog. :)

Sorry but you`re reveiws are shit and totally miss the point of what music is about. All you do is split the song into little segments and say 'well this bit is crap' , 'this bit is boring','this bit is dull'. It`s just so tedious to read.
So you don`t like the Ramones song , if it was so bad then why was it bad , not all these technical aspects of the playing of it which is all you seem to drone on about.Did you get that , why was the SONG bad? not the playing of it.

A great song doesn`t have to be played technically perfect for it to be great , thats why i`ll choose someone like the New York Dolls over Dream Theater everytime. Punk was about energy & simplicity , thats why people liked it , it was returning to the original rock n roll roots from the 50s and saved the world of the bloated out of touch prog bands that polluted the mid 70s.The beauty of it IS it`s simplicity. This seems to have totally gone over your head

Excuse me Mr. Self -Centered, what part of Don's Reviews don't you understand?

Even critics are going to have their critics pal.
