Some of my favourite rock ever. The band was good all round, and Layne Staley was an amazing vocalist. He simply can't be replaced.
They were a great band. Id say "Them Bones" or "Would" is probably my favorite tune of theirs. Staley had a good voice, but he didnt have a whole lot of range, but it wasnt really needed for their type of music anyhow so its not even an issue. They had some awesome guitar riffs as well
favourite grunge.. ever
Them Bones, Man in the Box and We Die Young were all pretty badass. I've got live versions of Maynard from Tool doing Them Bones and Man in the Box, they're pretty cool too.
There are some others I like but I can't remember right now, I like early Soundgarden better but these guys were definitely some of the better grunge, everything was so much more sleazier and gritty, I guess is what you would call it, than Nirvana and other artists at the time. |

i think you should check out Jar of Flies and if you are still bored, try Mad Season and then if your still bored i feel really bad for you that you cant get into either of these bands cause theyre ****ing great |
If he didn't like all the other AIC albums I don't think he'll like Mad Season, there way softer sound nothing like AIC.
AIC were a great band, mad season too. I don't think Layne could be replaced at all but that wouldn't stop me going to see them.

Thanks for the recommendations anyway, but I'll pass them. Even though I liked 'Dirt', I still give it only 3/5 rating, so I guess I'll never really get into them. Grunge isn't my thing. |
That depends on what type of Grunge your talking about If you want a more heavy grunge check out Tad, Green River and U-Men. If you want alittle softer check out Crackerbash, Mother Love Bone and Beat Happening. If your looking for modern Grunge check out Chixdiggit, April Sixth, and Foo Fighters (may not be Grunge but in my book they are)

I love when people don't understand how to work a search engine. :D
By the way.... Jar of Flies is probably the best alice in chains album. |
No. either Dirt with the two best songs they wrote Angry Chair and Would? or Facelift just because it was their first album and most influencial.:usehead:
I'm a nutshell and rotten apple kind of girl. I love it all though. Alice in Chains was my favorite grunge band. Then maybe stone temple pilots.
STP isn't my favorite band not even in my top 10. What's your favorite AIC song? With your name you sound like a Pearl Jam fan
sap, is the best aic album ep thing
Sap is my second favorite behind Dirt, Facelift come in a close third.
Jars of Flies
Hands Down. |
jar of fles sucks in comparison to sap
I dont think so. I like em all..I will listen to any of them..all of them..anytime..but I am bias to Jars of Flies.
The only probelem with Jar Of Flies is that they didn't have that one great song, insted it was a bunch of ok songs no real great ones.
^^ No way..Dont Follow was AWESOME so is No Excuses...awesome and best album..I am telling ya!
Compared with the other AIC songs that made the other albums so successful No Excuses wasn't that good. It's not bad but no that good. We Die Young and Man In the Box made Facelift a great album, Dirt had Angry Chair and Would? and in their self titled album origianlly titled "Tripod" Grind was my personal favorite. Sap misses the mark og haveing the two great songs that AIC is known of haveing. The only reason Layne didn't have two on the tripod album was because he was drugged out most of the time, but didn't lose their style something I felt was missed in Sap.
They're one of the most intense a soulful bands every to emerge. Besides Soundgarden, they were the best grunge band ever. If you liked Facelift, your going to love DIRT. It's dark, brooding hard rock, the likes of which haven't heard since Sabbath's debut.
Party Guy |
Layne used his angst with addiction to fuel the works of DIRT and Facelift...and if you have ever watched their DVD you can see the change..not just hear it.

Rotten Apple is a great song too |
I like it all but Jars of Flies just does something for me that the others dont..maybe its because it was the first stuff I was introduced to.
On the Dirt album I've been listening to Angry Chair, Would?, and Rooster ( maybe a soft song for AIC standards but a really good listen)
Rooster is great as well as Would...got me jonesing.
Did anyone here see the reunion of AIC without Layne, they were on tour for awhile and I heard there makeing a new album, I don't know if they already did but this is what I heard.
I saw them in Cali.
How was the show?
Wow I made this thread ages ago. I picked up Dirt and the self-titled album soon after posting this. Dirt is in my top 10 favourite albums now.
Wicked gnarley:)
I Simply can't pick a best album out, the best i can do is throw all the songs in one list and put them under categories for different moods, which is annoying not to a have a favourite song, but still i got a favourite band out of it all.
I saw them in Milwaukee... and oh my god... it was the greatest night of my life... William DuVall (the new lead singer) was AMAZING! If i closed my eyes I could've sworn it was Layne! I was impressed. They did some acoustic songs and had a slideshow of pics and videos of Layne. I cried! I was in the front row for the entire first half until i got crushed (i'm little) and then stood at the back, but could still see pretty well. At one point, I could've reached out and touched Jerry Cantrell... yummy... he had this amazing beard then! It looked surprisingly good. The opening band was "Hurt" and they are appropriately named because my ears bled from the volume of their cymbals... jeez... i've started hearing them on the radio now... i like some of their songs... but they're very repetitive and they dressed like women (tight jeans and low-cut shirts) and their lead singer was very obnoxious and over-acted A LOT! (reminded me a lot of James Hetfield, but not in a good way) so yeah... i heard a rumor that AIC will be at free ozzfest this year... but probably is just a rumor... if you EVER get the chance to see them TAKE IT!!! Nothing will EVER top that night!
Dirt is a ****ing good album, and pretty metallic too
i was lucky enough to catch them when they were on tour for Dirt....great show....i only recently realized that thier unplugged album is one of the best cd's ever.
I seen them in dublin last year they were supporting avenged seven fold and metallica. Yes yoy heard me supporting avenged seven fold which was a f*cking joke. But all that aside they were really good.
I just watched their unplugged video, i didn't much like the album. The video is Great! i love actually seeing them playing it's ten times better then the album.
I think they should change their name and start again, but still keeping AIC songs and keep tributing them to layne, but they should have a new name and see what they can produce with w/. |
I still love this band, I've not heard the new singer yet though. One thing that Pis*ed me off about them was the re-release of the "Nothing Safe" album, On the song "Grind" They've taken out a lot of Laynes vocals and just left Jerrys. Sure he has a good voice but the song is just not the same (or as good) and I have trouble not thinking of that version now when I listen to the real one. Maw. Other than that, they're all good.
i havent heard em with the new lead singer either but eh its still AIC i friggin love them theyre amazing
