the chorus could easily apply to Cobain's life which is why i figure the original person posed it as a question.

although according to wikipedia it's about breaking up from a long term relationship.

Take a deep breath and chill, you`ll see that my post was just a question that required a simple yes o no.

I haven`t heard the song in years as I`m not overly a AIC fan, it was just something I remembered and it could`ve easily been another song.

same here but i can't think of another track that could have been some sort of eulogy for Cobain. i wouldn't be surprised to learn that it was just fans trying to connect dots that didn't exist between their favourite bands from back in the day though.

Alice in Chains never wrote anything in regards to Nirvana. In fact, there is only one quote by them on record even mentioning Kurt that I can think of and it was of Layne saying that his death sucked or something. They never did anything together and there was no relationship between the two bands other than where they came from.

There's not a lot of music figures that really appreciate Nirvana. Maybe mainstream, yeah, but there are a lot more musicians that have given their respects to Layne. As we all know, Eddie Vedder wrote a song for him, Chris Cornell just recently blogged about a dream he had of Layne, and Maynard Keenan of Tool has made public his dislike of Kurt while stating that the loss of Layne was tragic; Layne has also done guest vocals for Tool on an occasion and Maynard did vocals for Alice in Chains during a concert. There are other artists that have expressed their respect toward Layne as well like Ann Wilson of Heart and that dude from Smashing Pumpkins.

I don't know what sparked the discussion of Kurt, but there is no sign anywhere, in their music, or in their interviews, that Alice in Chains gave that much of a **** about Nirvana/Kurt.

^

I saw Cantrell say Kurt was a good songwriter but a horrible guitarist once. I agreed.

^still doesn't change the fact that Alice in Chains was to Nirvana / Soundgarden what Pantera was to Metallica / Slayer.

yes that's Layne in the middle.

Wow...what an analogy.

Haha I seriously never even thought to make connections like that...I have whole new feelings for all of those bands now.

I'm not being sarcastic, btw...just in case I came off that way.

^ it's all good. sometimes i surprise myself with some of the lines i come out with hahaha that one is a keeper.

it's not that any of the bands were bad, but some were leaders while others were followers. some stuck to their guns the whole way through and others got super lucky with their re-inventions.
