If that's mediocre, I don't know what to say. They have a much better use of melody than other nu-metal bands, I'll say that.

I was hoping for a conversation. I'm not really interested in reading 116 pages of fanboy fapping over a band I'm not into.

Well as already stated, they are for more melodic then other nu-metal bands.

You actually expect someone to rationally explain to you why this band is actually really good even if their music does nothing for you? Music either hits you or it doesn't and there's no amount of explaining that's gonna change that...

I'm sorry to say but that did sound pretty mediocre to me. I actually liked the song FaSho posted better. After listening to "Holy Mountains" I realize that the singer is kind of a turn off for me. As far as the rest of the instrumentation goes, I liked some of the guitar in FaSho's song but that's about it. Does their older stuff have a different sound? I'd be interested in hearing some more by them because I've heard a lot of praise for them and feel like I'm missing something. So far it's not clicking with me though.

Rationally explain? No. I expect someone to do what FaSho did and say "hey check out this part of this song". Or "I know from reading some of your other posts that you like x, I think you may dig this song because of y". I don't think that's too crazy of a request. Would you prefer I just write off SOAD as crap and not give them a fair chance?

I'll once again reccomend you to look at Lucifer_sam's epic SOAD thread in the Mod's pick section or w/e it's called.

I guess I could see that as far as the guitar goes. The vocals seem pretty typical of nu-metal to me though.

Once again? I think this is the first time you mentioned it to me.
