they are ok with vocals, but I don't like some of the vocalists they are collaborating with...

I thought Murder Junkie's description "gimmicky crap" seemed rather fitting I'll admit I haven't listened much to their later stuff, but it always seemed to me the only reason they got popular was because they, well, covered Metallica on cellos. I guess it gives them some kind of value as a curiosity, especially with Metallica fans, even though their covers sound like crap compared to the real thing (imo). In other words, I don't think they rose to fame on the strength of their music, but rather because they're gimmicky as MJ would put it.

their covers of metallica suck, although they did make them famous. their original songs are nothing special, except for a few songs... they are good to listen every now and then if you're into that kind of music.

Yes, I agree.
As I tried to write - for me the best thing of this band are their instruments.
I love violoncello so much that I am able to listen to them, sometimes. I skip some tracks but I like them because I would need some cello bands but they aren't

Gimmicky... gimmicky... thanks, I have another new word for my english vocabulary

If you are interested to listen to more bands with cello, try Rasputina, Hevein and Angher.

Rasputina

Hevein

Angher

in all honesty i agree. in a sense it's like a band who only does covers of the music from video games. while there are groups that can take arrangements and make them their own, it does seem like if they relied soley on making original music that they wouldn't have nearly as many fans or be as well known.
