Ozzfest 2006
I thought I would give a quick review of Ozzfest and I dont quite feel this belongs in the Cd review section, however if a mod thinks different then feel free to move it. Also, I included setlists according to ozzfest.com, so they may or may not be accurate, as far as I can remember, they are pretty accurate.
So I missed a good half of second stage because the friend I was going with wouldnt get out of bed and we ended up getting there about 11:30am. I missed Between the Buried and Me, Full Blown Chaos, Bad Acid Trip, All That Remains and The Red Chord. With that out of the way, we arrived to a performance from A Life Once Lost.....awesome moshing. I had never heard of the bad, they were okay. Screamer was great, band not so much. Rehash Vulture Needleman Grotesque Pain and Panic Then Walls of Jericho came out, I was looking forward to them, so I was glad we didnt miss. The Frontwoman, Candace has so much energy, at one point she said, "We appreciate you from the bottom of our fucking hearts, so do us a favor, and tear this shit up!" And then she screamed "circle pit" and a humongous circle pit emerged. This was when I was cracked in the jaw and punched in the face. I'm still feeling that. Musically, they did not disappoint. And they played "Trigger Full of Promises," my favorite song. (setlist not provided) Strapping Young Lad came on next, I was kind of thrown off by the lead guitarist and frontman's half a head of hair. Though my doubts quickly went away because I thought the band was amazing. I found it funny when the lead singer goes "This Ozzfest fucking sucks......And you all fucking suck.....and you know what? WE FUCKING SUCK!" All Hail The New Flesh You Suck Love? In The Rainy Season Then the main bands of Second Stage....first off was Norma Jean. Some nice pits came from this one but overall I was disappointed. Somehow not as great live as recorded. This is when the crown surfing began as well. The band was throwing water into the crowd....like full bottles....and I barely missed a water bottle to the head. Shotgun Messiah Memphis Will Be Layed To Waste Bayonetwork Murderotica Liarsenic Vertebraille Bleeding Through was next. They are one of my friend's favorites, not so much mine. But the lead singer is fucking hot! Thats all I have to say about this band. For Love & Failing Tragedy In The Empty Streets Love Lost In A Hail Of Gunfire Love In Slow Motion Revenge I Seek Kill To Believe On Wings Of Lead None of us really like Unearth so we went to get some water. I'd be accurate if I said there was lots of pot smoking, water throwing, moshing and crowd surfing. Atreyu came on and everyone got excited again because they are pretty damn good live. My friend caught the bassists' pick and we caught the lead singer's water bottle and drank from it. They are so comfortable with eachother on stage, it was pretty good. Exs & Ohs Lip Gloss & Black Right Side Of The Bed Her Portrait In Black The Crimson Creature You Eclipsed By Me Someone's Standing On My Chest The same as Unearth, none of us really cared for Black Label Society so we went to the main venue to get good seats and we did, on the lawn, dead center. At the venue, DTE Energy Music Theater there is a pavillion of about 40 or 50 rows then there is the lawn, I had lawn tickets. Anyway, Dragonforce was the first main stage band. I was actually disappointed. They are talented, but nobody was really paying attention so there was no energy in the crowd. Through The Fire & Flames Valley Of The Damned Revolution Deathsquad Cry For Eternity Second main stage band was Lacuna Coil. It was as I expected. They are not really an ozzfest band type really. They did their best but only got a 30 minute set in which I knew like four songs. Christina was gorgeous as usual. Heavens A Lie What I See Our Truth Enjoy The Silence Fragile Devoted Closer I ignored the 45 minute Hatebreed set because I've never really liked Hatebreed. We spent this time throwing grass at eachother and a few in my group spent thier time illegally. lol. I can proudly say I got a few hits at Ozzfest. And this arab guy came up and offered some, but I wouldnt trust it. So, then one of my favorites came on Avenged Fucking Sevenfold! They tore it up pretty well. Each one of them looking super fuckable. The crowd really got into it. I took a permanent marker and wrote A-7-X on my chest. Their show was really great. Lots of energy, the lights were perfect and they played a few older songs as well as a couple from Bat Country. It was a perfect mix. After their set I said if I died right then I would die happy. Also, their cover of "Walk" was absolutely amazing. The singer from A Life Once Lost came out to help with the screaming and the crowd got more into this song then any song of the night. Beast and the Harlot Unholy Confessions Burn it Down To End The Rapture Walk (Pantera cover song) Bat Country Eternal Rest Then a highlight of the night, Disturbed. Between songs David went on about new bands, all beginning with a "the" that suck ass. He even had the crowd shouting "Fuck that Shit" Set-wise they chose to play many of their bigger hits, which were definately a crowd pleaser. During "Down With the Sickness" we even got a mosh pit going on the lawn, which is a pretty steep hill. Not great conditions for moshing, there was lots of falling and rolling, lol. But I NEVER got knocked down once. Overall, they were one of my favorite shows of the night. The Game Stupidfy Liberate Down With The Sickness Remember Deify Stricken Just Stop Prayer Land Of Confusion 10,000 Fists Voices Decadence System completed the show, with a 90 minute set in which they played songs from Toxicity, Mesmerize and Hypnotize. There were like two older songs. I didnt mind it, I like the newer cds, especially toxicity. A while back when argueing over System, somebody said Daron screws up a bunch live.....I see that now. lol. But the crowd REALLY got into this, screaming all the lyrics they could, bouncing up and down to the pure energy, it was really nice. They did not disappoint at all. Attack BYOB Hypnotize Kill rock N roll Lonely Day Soldier Side Cigaro Old School Hollywood Question Radio Video Revenge Violent Pornography Suite Pee War Aerials Chop Suey Needles Physco Toxicity Sugar The atmosphere was great. I really enjoyed myself this year. Although now I am sunburnt and sore. It was worth it. I cant see why so many people dogged this year's show, it was awesome. |
Theres one band there i would pay to see, and thats Norma Jean.
i do hate gigs like that though.. people seem to loose all respect for others and think heavy live music is an excuse to act like a twat. |
Sounds like you had fun. I;m not too big a fan of Ozzfest simply ebcause I've always gone to the philly stop and it sucks. The bands, the crowd. . .
The only bands I'd ever care to see at Ozzfest are Chevelle, Gwar, A Perfect Circle and Tool Quote:

Outdoor concerts are crap
I gave them up 5 years ago |

I peg you for a Kittie Concert goer. Only because of the nudity, not because of the music |

Fresh air? You mean the sweltering hot air that doesn't relent?

But 20x40 I can't breathe it's so god damn hot holy shit it's loud in in here rooms are the best. I can't stand large venues of any sort. Too impersonal, too many people and I just don't enjoy it.

Small venues are the best.

i cant stand gigs in daylight.. takes away all atmosphere. and yeah, any venue larger than about 2000 and i probably wouldnt bother going even if the bands were good. its just not as interesting IMO, not if youre there for the music alone. |

Damn you're lucky |
I think Ozzfest has progressively gotten worse. I went several years ago and it had one of the best lineups ever. Now, it just seems they've gotten lazy or something. Plus, outside all day in the summer with a bunch of drunk *******s? Never again!!!
|
Why would you pay $60 to go to Ozzfest?!
That is ridiculous. Way too expensive. |
^ And to think Woodstock 69' was basicly free.

So Ozzfest isn't general admission?
That sucks even worse. |
Oh god, sounded like a good concert, I would've loved to go!
I really would've only wanted to see System and Disturbed but I don't mind the other bands. How was David's scream-type thing in Down With The Sickness in the intro? It would've sounded awesome |

I've never paid less than 80 bucks for a ticket. And the norm is usually 93 dollars for a ticket. And over the years it definitely has begun to suck. The last good Ozzfest show I went to was a few years ago when Chevelle played there. |
I thought as ozzfest this year ozzy and the old blacksabbath remaining members were going to peform?
actually I saw it on tv, and I saw them sing a few songs, and ozzy to my surprise he was managing to run around and singing.. |

1. Going to see sh*tty bands 2. Going to sh*tty venues to see the aforementioned sh*tty bands. What a waste of money. |

More or less the popularity of the particular event. And I don't pay 93$ to listen to music I don't like. Try again :) |
The venue/band playing it has everything to do with the price of the ticket.
So any band that is going to cost $93 to go and see isn't going to play a venue without stadium seating. Which is the most horrible way to watch a concert. And just because you like them, doesn't mean they aren't sh*t, in fact, it sort of strengthens my point. Let me ask you 2 things. 1. What is the venue, in the state that you live now, that you normal go to for a concert? 2. What are the past couple of bands you have seen at ^that^ venue? |
that would make an interesting topic.. says alot about how people see live music.

Since I do take up residence in PA however (for most of the year) I usually go to the tweeter center, The Troc, The TLA, or the Electric Factory for most concerts. bands I've seen at The tweeter Center: Linkin Park, Staind, Hoobstank, POD, Good Charlotte, MSI, Dream theatre, Taproot, the Foo Fighters, and a ton of others. I've also seen Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera there. All of the tickets for those shows were under 80 bucks. I went to the Sounds of the Underground concert there last year to see bands like Norma Jean and Gwar and the ticket cost maybe 70 bucks. Bands I've seen at the TLA The Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age (If not there then the Electric Factory), MSI, Weezer, Good Charlotte, New Found Glory, Alient Ant Farm, Jack Johnson Bands I've seen at the electric Factory: Good Charlotte, Sugar Cult, Linkin Park, Dave Matthews Band, and others Bands I've seen at the Troc: Good Charlotte, and some others mostly local bands Bands at the Festival Pier (concerts are free) Seether Green Day Oasis (I think) Evanescence Shinedown and some other Bands I've seen somewhere in Philly but not sure of the venue: A Perfect Circle Tool Nine Inch Nails Rage Against the Machine Papa Roach Pink Floyd Mighty Mighty Boss Tones Blink 182 and too many others. I excluded pop artists like Justin Timberlake and rappers like Eminem. I assure you, I've never payed more than 80$ for tickets to any of these shows. If you go see Ozzfest in any part of PA just about, you're gonna pay maybe 80 bucks at least. Unless it hits Hershey, PA and then you'd never know what the price would be. And Ozzfest is always an outdoor event. Keep in mind there are two or three other venues I frequent but didn't mention. And for the record, I usually don't care too much about how big the venue is. And I'm not too picky about whether it's indoor or outdoor depending on the musician. I don't want to see Justine Timberlake at an outdoor event. I do however want to see Warped Tour at an outdoor event. |
Is anyone else feeling the contradiction?

I've never paid more than 80 bucks to see any other performer in Philly. Is that clear enough for you? |

^ So What If He is, it's Not your deal. I talk to him online. he is decent to people who can hold a conversation with him.
Oh, For the best 8 months? What the hell is that? What were the other four ****? Use your fecking context clues. |

And I've had some decent conversations with alex. I just think that a better half of his time is spent acting like a jerk. |

Let's just drop the topic of bungalowbill. I feel kinda bad cause he isn't here to defend himself. |
Ok, I finally got my pictures back and it really wasnt worth developing. Next year I want to smuggle a digital in because toss cameras completely suck. Plus I was never superclose to the stage. None of the main stage really turned out.

Not a great place for a mosh. One good hit and you roll and hit the cement. |
Sorry for triple posting, but I wanted to get these pictures in.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20.../ozzfest14.jpg This is the mosh in which I got punched in the face. The man to the right holding his head was in almost every mosh pit I saw that day. He was so high. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20.../ozzfest17.jpg I thought this was really funny |
I was going to attend that but it was cancelled in Somerset...
