Slipknot do rap in some songs, or as their fans who refuse to acknowledge it call it "talk really fast in monotoned".

Im not really up on the whole "nu-metal" scene. Would you mind making a list of some "nu-metal" bands so I could get a better sense of what the genre entails?

Nu Metal

Not truly a metal sub-genre, more closely like a 2nd cousin twice removed, Nu Metal combines some metallic and alternative rock riffing with a hip hop based vocal delivery and rhythm. Usually involves heavy sampling and turn table use. Many bands reached mainstream status. Lyrics usually tell of some sort of hardship, whether it be a relationship failure or substance abuse. Few true metal heads put this bastardization of our music on the same level as other genres however.

Examples: Korn, the Deftones, Limp Bizkit, Staind, American Head Charge, Taproot, Cold
.

Really?? Oh most of the Slipknot I've heard was screaming, I've only heard parts of that Subliminal Verses album, which I think wasn't so screamy.

oojay, wikipedia has a fairly thorough list.

That doesnt sound quite right.
And I still wouldnt consder Sully from Godsmack to have any "hip-hop" influence in his vocal delivery, and Im not sure Ive heard them using many turntables in any of their albums either.

well basically any band could be consdered nu-metal with enough argument. that list had everything from Black Sabbath to Hoobastank, Pantera to NWA, and Run DMC to System of a Down. Sounds like people just like to categorize music a little too much.

Wiki is really bad for that kind of thing. I ussually think NU Metal consists of these things. Quite simple guitar riffs ussually in drop-d and power chords. Mediocre drumming, definently nothing special but they can pull of some good beats (in exception of Joey Jordison). Angsty lyrics and finally scream/rap vocals.
