Default The totally legit band thread

In an effort to get some people here into better music, I have decided to create my own ******* elitist thread. So everything I put here is highly approved.

people who can contribute (i'll add more later):
beat YR own Kid
Sound Devastation
cardboard adolescent
Stone Magnet
the death of capitilism (when he's talking about Doom)
boo boo
LucyInTheSkyWithDiamond

rules. Post the album, the album cover, and a brief description of it.

Agent Orange - Living In Darkness

The most crucially important Surf Punk band ever. But they are so catchy and such good songwriters, everyone should get this and get into it. You will not be disappointed

I have it and enjoy it.

Die Kreuzen - Cows And Beer EP

Almost-essential hardcore released in 1982. Often overlooked although recently I have noticed a few more people taking notice. In later albums they moved away from their hardcore sound a little bit to help pioneer alt-rock with the likes of Deep Wound who I will get to soon, but this early material is essential.

Deep Wound - Deep Wound EP

J Mascis on drums, I don't really need to say anymore but I will. Of course J and Lou went onto form Dinosaur Jr but their Deep Wound material, particually their EP is worth a look into. J pretty much invented drumming for grind bands to come on this EP.

The Dicks - Dicks Hate The Police

Mommy, mommy, mommy
Look at your son
You might have loved me
But now I got a gun
You better stay out of my way
I think I've had a bad day
I've had a bad day
I've had a bad day

Middle Class - Out of Vogue EP

THE original hardcore album. Fuck Black Flag.

The Fix - Jan's Rooms EP

The Fix were a well fucked up group of individuals. Anyway early Touch & Go Records hardcore, worth a listen for people into something like a mix of F and some other Midwest band, it's balls to the wall hardcore. I dunno, decide for yourself.

Fearless Iranians From Hell - Fearless Iranians From Hell EP

Some more Texas shit to back up the Dicks. I don't know how to explain this release, it's different to other Texas stuff but it's still good. Anyway, they have a great name which is enough reason to check this out.

Haram - Haram
The first full length by DC's Haram blends a sound remeniciant of some of the members past bands (majority rule, city of caterpillar, malady). If you like post hardcore, don't know what post hardcore even is, or just like some good rock, check out this band.

Haram - Haram

Love Agent Orange, Die Kreuzen, Deep Wound, and what I've heard of Fearless Iranians From Hell, and I downloaded Haram but it's in m4a format so it'll take me a while before I actually get it into mp3s and listen to it.

Polvo - Today's Active Lifestyles

Though most easily described as a "math rock" band, a term used to describe angular, post-punk-like indie rock bands who delve into a fair amount of experimentation with time signatures and the like, on Today's Active Lifestyles Polvo doesn't truly fit in to this category. The album is filled with beautifully off-kilter melodies constructed with odd, invented chords and complex rhythms. Rather than copy the stark minimalism of bands like Slint, Polvo crafted instead beautifully layered albums that toyed with various styles, often being influenced by Eastern melodies (on later albums even adding a sitar) and sounding, in the end, like nothing that had come before, or that has come since (if you find otherwise, please, let me know).

Basically, it's hard to describe this album. But, of all the Polvo albums I've listened to, it's by far my favorite, partly because the vocals are more subdued, and they really annoy me on the other albums, but mostly because it has a far more beautiful collection of melodies and flows marvelously. It's worth listening to if you're a fan of math rock, indie rock, or post-rock, because it incorporates all the styles commonly attributed to those genres to create something wonderful and truly unique.

(The album title is the link, if you couldn't figure it out)
