The god of man is a failure

I have yet to listen to any of their albums, but i have heard only great things about them and getting some of their music is a high priority.

Ugh, I really despise Agalloch. They're incredibly boring and repetitive. It seems like the only set who like them are the fans of Ulver & Opeth.
That whole set of metal is just incredibly crass... antlers? Really? It's as though they fail to see being unique and innovative doesn't involve using random noises that add nothing to a song. While that may not be damning in and of itself, their songs just... suck. |
I was introduced to them a few weeks ago, for a few days i was pretty into them, but they got dull fairly fast.
I still enjoy listening to them from time to time. |
"Tomorrow Will Never Come" is the most beautiful yet bleak song I have ever heard. There's so much raw emotion in the pluck of each string it's ridiculous.

Anybody got the leak?

I was going to download it just now, I could get you a link if you're interested. I've heard only amazing things about it.

Album of the year material right here folks. "Black Lake Nidstag" is one of the most amazing tracks that I have heard this year. |
Album of the year without a doubt, and i'm only on track 3! 2010 is officially the best year in music ever imho.
|
From what I've heard so far, Marrow of the Spirit is shaping up to be a contender for album of the year. With great albums such as Disambiguation and Axioma Ethica Odini coming out this autumn, 2010 is shaping up to be a great year for metal.
I'm just hoping Agalloch's upcoming release is as good, if not better than AATG. The Post-Rock tendencies in Ashes really made that album special to me. |

But I'm a patient man. Still, somebody please hit me with this whenever it's convenient. |
Heard it but I have to disagree with some of you - I thought it was sorta terrible in comparison to Ashes Against the Grain which grabbed me right away. I think that one feels a lot more organic and atmospheric. The new one has a lot more generic metal riffing and structure, or at least a lot more of it. It felt like I had heard it all before. A clean metal sound with lots of predictable chord progressions, and buildups with resolutions that you can hear coming from miles away.
I'd have to re-listen to both albums to really back up my statements but I was pretty disappointed by this. |
I have nothing to say except to back LoathsomePete's "album of the year" sentiment. I can't say enough good things about this album. Agalloch is my favorite metal band and this didn't disappoint me at all.
|
I love Agalloch but is there a challenger to their particular sound this year?
A one man outfit and only 4 tracks released thus far but this is some very good stuff right here. |
No way Jackhammer. Agalloch all the way. There live dvd kicks some serious arse.
Although Gallowbraid has some definite cool stuff. |

As for the new Agalloch album. It's a mixed affair for me. I think the second half of the album is much better than the first half and they seem to really excel at their more ambient side whilst the heavier Black Metal sound they have becomes less interesting with each release and I think the band seem to put more effort into their mellow moments which is fine by me. |

This band is awesome, The Mantle is one of the best albums I own. Thanks JH for that rec a way back. Good call.
That video is good too. From The Mantle: |

that Gallowbraid was really good too |
Here's their new song/ EP. Sounds very much like what you heard on Marrow of the Spirit which I'm fine with because I really liked that album. Anybody else hear this yet? |
One of my favorite bands. Agalloch has continued to be one of the few truly amazing progressive black bands out there along with Keep of Kalessin, Ceremonial Castings, Enslaved, and Isahn. When I saw them live over the summer, they played a ****ing 2.5 hour set. It was ridiculous.

I'm not much of a metal fan, and had been urged to listen to this band by a friend ever since Ashes Against The Grain came out. I never bothered, until this year. Man am I glad I did. This band are something else. Mantle and Ashes are both perfect in their own ways, and Pale Folklore would have been so much better with proper production.
I haven't given that most recent album a whirl, but have heard mixed things. Is it an enormous departure from the sound of earlier efforts? As good/worthwhile as Ashes Against The Grain? Any thoughts would be great. |
I like Marrow of the Spirit even more than Ashes Against The Grain. So, yes.
They also have a brand new album called The Serpent & The Sphere coming out in May, so be on the lookout for that. |
