InvokeTheDarkAge showed me this. Its really good stuff if you like the folkish stuff.

riseagainstrocks 08-31-2006 06:52 PM

The new album is top notch

swim 08-31-2006 06:55 PM

I need to find more of them but so far what I've heard is wonderful.

Raine 08-31-2006 07:33 PM

I don't know much about them but I do have their album Of Stone, Wind and Pillor. off that I like A Poem By Yeats and Haunting Cross.

Rainard Jalen 05-01-2007 05:29 PM

Agalloch; really good band

Dunno if Agalloch have been brought up here before. But they're an excellent experimental "metal" band. Interested to see how many people have heard of them/like them. And did anybody else get Ashes Against The Grain last year?

www.myspace.com/agalloch

NB: not for people who don't like very long, slow-developing, primarily atmospheric pieces. Rewarding for those who do.

The Unfan 05-02-2007 12:53 PM

Solid band and Ashes was a solid album. Not quite on par with The Mantle though.

Inuzuka Skysword 07-29-2007 04:50 PM

Agalloch

Does anyone like them because I am obsessed with their music right now? Every album is just pure beauty. My favorite song has to be In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion.

jackhammer 07-29-2007 04:55 PM

Up it then ffs, then i can give u an opinion!

I'm surprised you haven't heard Agalloch since you seem to have a pretty wide/deep taste in music.

I'll see if I can up it later on today. The Mantle is probably my favourite followed by Pale Folklore... or maybe the other way around - it's hard to decide.

I am upping The Mantle right now so if you are going to upload something then do Pale Folklore. I also think that is their next best album.

SpandexNSpikes 07-31-2007 11:10 PM

I've only heard one song - but I freekin' love it!!! I need to get all their albums!

The Unfan 08-01-2007 06:40 AM

They're good. Definitely a band I have to be in the mood for though.

Yeah I can't listen to their third album unless I am in a black metal mood. I am usually listening to Windir right before I listen to that album.

jackhammer 08-01-2007 02:44 PM

I am listening to THE MANTLE now-f[u]cking wow! Absolutely love it. If i like it on first listening, then it will only get better. Have you guys heard FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM? A highly influential goth/rock band from the U.K who had a massive bearing on bands like this and OPETH etc. Their music is very intricate but powerful at the same time.

This is their first album from 1987, and evry album is always slightly different from the last.

Yeah FOTN are good. Ulver's first album also had a huge influence on Agalloch.

Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain

Does anyone listen to Agalloch? They are a folk/metal band from Portland, OR and they are amazing. Their latest CD is so epic I can't sit still when listening to it. I hope someone out there wants to talk about them!

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 01-30-2008 11:26 PM

All I have is The Mantle. It's decent.

bloodbirds 01-30-2008 11:38 PM

I have not gotten to hear mantle yet but I will soon. You really should hear their latest it would be well worth it. It is so beautiful. Thank you for responding.

The Unfan 01-31-2008 01:47 AM

Very solid band, and Ashes is a great release that shows a less folky side than previous outings.

Rainard Jalen 01-31-2008 01:53 AM

Yeah, this is a band with a great deal of talent. Eagerly awaiting their next EP, due out in a few months as I understand.

Ashes might just have been their best release thus far.

bloodbirds 01-31-2008 09:33 AM

Thank you both for replying, and I agree they are a very talented group. I Ashes is the only album I have heard so far and I love every song. I am going to be sure to hear all of their old stuff, as well as Sculptured, and the EP when it comes out. It's likely that I will always like Ashes the most though :tramp:

Frewen 01-31-2008 11:19 AM

Don't ignore Pale Folklore either! As Embers Dress the Sky is my favourite Agalloch rack by far...

jackhammer 01-31-2008 12:34 PM

The Mantle is a stunning album and deserves higher praise outside of it's own genre. They are a very distinctive band.

Seltzer 02-01-2008 08:45 PM

I can never decide whether I like Pale Folklore or the Mantle more. I haven't yet heard Ashes Against the Grain.

Agalloch is a great band. I never understood why some think they rip off Opeth because personally I don't see that at all.

Not much even in common with Opeth. Agalloch are much more on the ambient/doom side imo, whereas Opeth are a folk/prog metal hybrid. With that said, Agalloch do derive influences from Scandinavian folk.

I think people would only forge a likeness between the bands because both have many juxtaposed quiet and loud sections in their songs.

Inuzuka Skysword 02-02-2008 08:29 AM

Agalloch is definitely one of my favorite metal bands and so is Opeth. I can not even see how one could say Agalloch ripped off anybody. Ulver's first two albums influenced Agalloch more then any band.

Well it is hard to compare the two because of the production. Pale Folklore did not really have the production quality it needed to have its best sound whereas The Mantle pretty much maxed out on the production. Personally I like The Mantle better because it was a perfect blend of post-rock, black metal, and doom metal.

You're spot on there. That's exactly why people think one ripped of the other which is bollocks - it's not as if they're the only two bands to alternate between quiet and loud sections.

The Unfan 02-02-2008 05:21 PM

I think their best release is actually Of Stone, Wind And Pillor simply for their cover of Kneel To The Cross. One of the few songs that gets me teary eyed every time I hear it.

Inuzuka Skysword 08-05-2008 03:01 PM

New album was announced recently! They also have a DVD hopefully coming out and they have a collection of earlier songs that was just released. I am ****ting my pants for the new album!

BTW, does anyone have a link for their Promo 1998 and the Sol Invictus compilation album they were on Sol Lucet Omnibus? When I will have those I will finally have everything Agalloch has put out.

Rainard Jalen 08-06-2008 04:33 PM

the white EP was rubbish

Gates_of_Iscariot 08-25-2008 10:15 PM

i enjoy this band
falling snow is my favourite song ever

BlckDeth 08-25-2008 11:10 PM

I'm not really feeling the White EP, but The Mantle, Ashes Against The Grain, and Pale Folklore are amazing.

Mordoth 08-28-2008 01:32 AM

They have one song worthy of listening to. -.- The rest is just borrrrrrrring.

GravitySlips 08-31-2008 07:50 PM

I only have The White ep, but I enjoy it a lot. Good autumnal music.

Can someone upload one of their albums please? Do you still upload on this site? Whatever's best would be great, I'm looking forward to hearing more by this band.

The Mantle is one of the best Metal albums ever made and the texture and compositions poo poo all the naysayers that say Metal is one dimensional.

Mordoth 09-02-2008 03:45 PM

Metal sucks.

Heck, rock and roll in general sucks.

15Steps 10-12-2008 12:09 AM

Im so in love with them right now.
