That's what post metal is? Well if that's the case then that's my favorite.
I was dead. This was hell. There were no demons, no hellfire or brimstone, just a deep, complete feeling of darkness and hopelessness. This was the never-ending void. Not at all how I had imagined it, but worse than I thought that it could have been.

stoner doom
We went back there and they had come and hacked off every inoculated arm. There they were in a pile. A pile of little arms. And I remember... I... I... I cried. I wept like some grandmother. I wanted to tear my teeth out. I didn't know what I wanted to do. And I want to remember it. I never want to forget it. I never want to forget. And then I realized... like I was shot... like I was shot with a diamond... a diamond bullet right through my forehead. And I thought: My God... the genius of that.

Doom metal - and I'm happy that it seems to be quite popular here.

Post-metal is close - I keep atmospheric/post inside the doom folder of my music collection anyway.

Thrash, though I still hate Megadeth.

My second fav is Prog Metal, though it still should be said that a good deal of what is labeled Prog Metal is neither progressive or even that heavy.

Thrash, but it is followed closely by metalcore.
