The Bon Jovi Appr. Thread

Seriously, is there anyone who doesn't like Jon Bon Jovi? I can't imagine anything much better than turning on my radio and hearing "Shot through the heart, and your'e to blame, darlin' you giiive looove...a bad name" blasting into my cerebrum at full volume :band:

My favorites:

It's My Life
Runaway
You Give Love A Bad Name
Wanted Dead Or Alive
Born To Be My Baby

tdoc210 12-23-2006 07:00 PM

nah, he's kinda lame but it makes him cool. one of my all-time fav's.

Melkor 12-24-2006 03:18 AM

I don't know how they became 'Rock Gods'. 'Cause they flat out suck.

I prefer the likes of Deep Purple and Def Leppard, when it comes to Old School Rock. Bands like Bon Jovi and U2 are overrated.

Alo 12-24-2006 03:32 AM

Never got the worshipment around him, I don't think he's anything special, his voice just annoys me.

Skid Mark 12-24-2006 04:16 AM

I f*cking hate bon jovi with a passion

Urban Hat€monger ? 12-24-2006 05:25 AM

The first band I ever truely hated

[MERIT] 12-24-2006 09:34 AM

Thumbs up your asses my friends. And did someone just lump them in with U2? *loads shotgun*

blackTshirt 12-24-2006 10:46 AM

the kinda band you either like or seriously hate a lot lot lot
luckily, i was raised on this music so yeah, i like bon jovi plus i always thought jon looked like my dad, like their facial features are seriously similar in my opinion

i used to love queen of new orleans when i was little and that album, destination anywhere. i still listen to it
by the way, did you notice they always have a movie-like video for their love songs with a boy and a girl and a little drama, and anyway they're very similar

Kurt_Cobain 12-24-2006 05:08 PM

Bon Jovi rocks!! They're just fun, that kinda rock thats easy to listen to. And Richie is amazing. They're great live too.
Fave songs:
Livin' on a prayer
Bed Of Roses
Shot through the heart
Have a nice day
Say it isnt so
...all of 'em...

littleknowitall 12-24-2006 05:16 PM

wanted dead or alive gives me the horn! woo! (not really, but its a damn good song)

IWP 05-01-2009 11:26 AM

Bon Jovi

I'm not expecting a lot of people here to like this band since they're (or at least they were) pop metal to the extreme, but I think they're awesome so enough of that.

Anyway, they're probably one of my favorite 80s rock bands. Their songs are catchy and fun as **** to listen to. My favorite songs would have to be Runaway, Wild In the Streets, Livin' On a Prayer, You Give Love a Bad Name, Born to Be My Baby, etc. I don't really take a liking to their newer stuff though, especially their newest album which is pretty much a country rock atrocity, but their old stuff is some of the best hard rock in my opinion. They're not exactly the most technical skilled band around (which I hardly care about anyway), but their songwriting is top notch if you're into ultra-catchy glam/pop metal.

ZaborgZaloog 05-01-2009 02:00 PM

It's My Life makes me wanna strangle whoever is playing.

thisWARisours 05-01-2009 02:17 PM

I like It's My Life lol.

Livin On A Prayer is one of my all-time fave songs...You Give Love A Bad Name, Bad Medicine, Runaway, pretty much all of Slippery lol.

I also really love "Always"..slow, but it's so good.

boo boo 05-01-2009 02:33 PM

Am I the only one notices the similarity between It's My Life and Bryan Adams's Summer of 69?

Comus 05-01-2009 02:45 PM

Didn't really see any similarity, just listened to both on Spotify, only thing it reminded me is that I really like some really bad music.

jackhammer 05-01-2009 02:55 PM

They hit big just as I was getting into Metal ('86) and they were the antithesis of what I was getting into but c'mon. They do what they do and admittedly do it well. Wanted Dead Or Alive is a great Rock track

Alfred 05-01-2009 03:07 PM

You wanna tell me how to live my life?

Blue 05-01-2009 03:08 PM

I never knew Bon Jovi's band was considered anything related to metal.

They were a Rock band who broke big in '86 the year that I got into Metal so anything like this was considered lightweight if you was digging on Iron Maiden and Metallica etc that's all. That sort of thing goes on now with Fall Out Boy par example.

Ahh, right right, I see what you mean.

frequency 05-01-2009 03:47 PM

I love, love Bon Jovi! Have never seen them live but would really like to. I haven't bought most of the newer stuff but that's not due to lack of time (or laziness)!

almauro 05-01-2009 06:34 PM

Wanted Dead or Alive, now that's what it's all about. Everything else they did pretty much sucks.

sidewinder 05-02-2009 12:01 AM

I will admit that in 5th grade I was a big fan and Slippery When Wet was my favorite album. I was also listening to Huey Lewis and the News at the time. But I still have respect for him/them. I hold Bon Jovi in the same place I hold Nickelback and Kid Rock. And that's not a good place. I respect Bon Jovi's earlier work because I was a fan at one time, but I outgrew it fast and it's just watered down mass-appeal rock. Not my thing.

Thrice 05-02-2009 01:18 AM

I keep reading 'the Bon Iver appt thread' this is the third time I have opened it and began reading only to relize I am retarded, sorry for wasting your time.

Erm yes, BJ are pussy rock of the highest order! :banghead:

This thread supports a very strange concept.

Same thing here, just getting into good music and grasping at anything that seemed like good rock or metal. I can't stand the newer stuff that being anything post 1986, but 7800 deg Farenheit and Slippery when wet were pretty good.

Mirrorball95 05-06-2009 07:03 AM

Bon Jovi is awful (IMO), but I must salute you for having the guts to post a Bon Jovi topic on here...

IWP 05-06-2009 11:25 AM

To be honest, I never really cared about what people on an internet forum think about my taste in music. Hell, I'll even admit that I listen to Madonna, Duran Duran, HIM, and Cyndi Lauper.

Why? They have just as much merit as any other Rock band whether they are liked or not. They write their own tunes, play their own music and still tour.

The Cat 05-06-2009 12:59 PM

If you were around and into music in 1985/86 you may apriciate that back then they were not bad at all, concidering there was not much music of its type in the mainstream, and im sure that a lot of bands today may not be as sucessful or even exist if Bon Jovi hadn't had the impact they did back then

PinkCigarette 05-06-2009 02:54 PM

YES, Bon Jovi! *cartwheels*

I am not fond of their new material but classic Bon Jovi is awesome.

Some of the best songs:

-Runaway
-You Give Love A Bad Name
-Wanted Dead or Alive
-Livin' on a Prayer
-Born to be my Baby
-Bad Medicine
-I'll Be There for You
-Keep the Faith
-Blaze of Glory

Howard the Duck 08-12-2012 05:53 AM

bump!

just got "Slippery when wet" and "New Jersey"

both not too shabby

Trollheart 08-12-2012 07:05 PM

BIG Bon Jovi fan (also Jon's and Richie's solo work) and love the latest releases, from Crush to Bounce to HAND and the Circle. IMO they just get better with every new album.

But, of course, that's just me. :)

GuitarHeroFan101 08-12-2012 07:45 PM

Personally, my favorite songs by Bon Jovi would be Runaway,You Give Love A Bad Name,Wanted Dead or Alive, and Livin' On A Prayer. I have heard others, but these are just my favorites.

Janszoon 08-12-2012 07:49 PM

I appr. some of Bon Jovi's earlier singles but don't really appr. their later stuff.

Howard the Duck 08-13-2012 02:09 AM

I'll Be there For You

these five words I say to you

x2

Of course, I got more interested in Richie and David Bryan which was more my thing, but my goodness Wanted Dead or Alive is so fun, everything off Keep the Faith is brilliant especially Dry County, which if sung by anyone else would probably have replaced "Imagine" in everyone's hearts, and of course Slippery When Wet doesn't pretend to be anything else. Soooo... of course Jon sounds horrible now, of course years of intensive screaming and cigarettes have made his voice more gravelly than Pat Buttram, and of course the albums have universal appeal to the simple and the masses. But shut up, that's GOOD and Bon Jovi has always been brilliant and has been more entertaining than any of the arty, experimental acts who've been given better reviews here.

Trollheart 08-14-2012 05:10 PM

I truly don't get all the hate for Bon Jovi. What is it about them that gets up people's noses so? The fact that they've made it big? The fact they stay safe and don't take chances? Though surely "Lost highway" was nothing else if not a big gamble, which could have alienated their fanbase?

I'm not just speaking as a blind fanboy either. I'm able to recognise, and prepared to admit when my favourite bands/artistes slip up. I'm a big Asia fan, but just recently wrote a damning critique of their latest album, suggesting them should call it a day. I'm a huge Marillion fan, with them since 82, but I also had to admit that I would never get into the album "Somewhere else".

But Bon Jovi have never yet released an album I would consider worth taking them to task over, questioning my loyalty, or even that made me think that was not so great (in recent times anyway: 7800 sort of sucked a lot of the time); to my mind, every album they've released has been a gem, and they've just got better with each new one. The last one, "The circle", is anything but a tired old band going through the motions. It's full of powerful, rocky anthems, politically-charged songs, and a ballad or two. Jon may not be Springsteen, but he's a great songwriter, excellent performer and to my mind his voice is as good now as it was at the height of Bon Jovi's fame.

I'm tired of people writing them off as "dad-rock", sneering without actually explaining what it is about them they're sneering at. Isn't a band who have been going now for over thirty years, and show no sign of "losing it", to be applauded? Or is that too much to ask?

Come on, guys: how about giving credit where it's due?
