Yes, I don't think the rest of it flatters him at all. I think it does say something about the kind of person he is, but that wasn't the point of my post.

It just sounded like he was trying to get his crowd back. From his POV, he obviously thought it was in his best interest to go off on the guy and talk **** on Bruce, or he just wasn't thinking about it when he said it. Either way, I don't think it says anything about him as a person other than that he has a serious temper and that he may or may not care for homosexuals.

Anyways, this discussion has come full circle. I don't think it's terrible to let your anger get the best of you and call someone a ***got or a cock sucker, and I don't think that he's bitter and desperate because of his mild rant about Bruce and Iron Maiden. I think he's just really sick of hearing about it.

Fair enough, I thought he was pretty bitter to start with, although cocaine and alcohol abuse can do that and I am certainly no one to talk when it comes to that. I stand by my feelings regarding any form of homophobic slurs and the use of gay as a pejorative, but I also openly admit that I haven't always felt that way. Getting to know and love LGBT people as dear friends shed a lot of light on that for me. We can agree to disagree on this point.

You act like an *******, there's a good chance that someone's going to react to it. The guy who shouted Bruce's name knew that, that's why he said it. He was probably laughing his ass off and will be telling his buddies/family/kids the story for the rest of his life. That is, if he wasn't assassinated by Paul's hitman after. Who knows?

Eh, though I don't use it among friends anymore it doesn't really bother me that much (though I'd prefer it if you didn't do it) if it's just a group of friends talking **** just to talk **** who don't actually mean it, but when you do it in public like that it reflects on your personal views more. But on the other side of the coin when you've probably been getting this kind of crap for the past three decades then I can understand how you might flip out and let something like that out even if you're not an actual homophobe.

Douchey to be sure, but it's premature to judge a guy too harshly just on the basis of a few comments when you don't really know his personal history or the larger historical context that may have influenced him in that moment.

How come "Somewhere in Time" isn't that well-known? I reckon that's their best album. It's glorious! I must admit, however, that I prefer Paul Di'Anno's voice to Bruce's. Iron Maiden isn't one of my favourite bands, but they were one of those that helped me discover there existed hard rock and heavy metal. The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner is a song that just blows me away!

I think Powerslave is better, I don't really care much for the synth-driven sound of Somewhere in Time.

I agree. I don't care much for that synth-driven sound of the album. But it's the music I love: The Loneliness of a Long Distance Runner is a glorious song, which they never play in their gigs; Deja-Vu blows me away, and they never play it either; then there's the great Stranger in a Strange Land and the other songs... I just can't give an explanation; the album just blows my mind!

I prefer their S/T over Powerslave. It has a less epic feel and more the kind of heavy metal you can just rock' n' roll to. Powerslave is still fantastic. It has one of my favourite tracks, Back In The Village.

I think Killers should get more attention than it does (for an Iron Maiden album). It's well just... killer.

Since I've been a member of this forum, I've noticed that most of the die-hard Maiden fans that have been on here have usually rated Killers as one of their best. Personally I think it's a good album but weaker than the albums around it, but then again I'm not a die-hard Maiden fan.
