I really do need to update this.

I'll get around to it. College does put a great deal of demand on your time.

If one of the mods wants to take it on himself I don't mind if any of my rock post is updated or midly overhauled. I think there are a couple of genres that can also be added.

I think its funny that people keep saying that grind is an extension of punk, i also find it interesting that metalcore was described but hardcore was left out. and you have math metal but not mathcore, which by the way is what ghingis tron, and earlier Dillenger Escape Plan would be classified under not grind, grind bands would be bands like Creation is crucifixion, Monster X and Passover, which then leads into power violence (Man is the Bastard, Orchid and Charles Bronson), these genres are were more of an offspring of 2nd wave hardcore and death and thrash. i believe these genres are valid and strong enough to stand on there own, and not a little blurb under punk, which also leads to why is punk so over looked here?
old school punk
politipunk
pop-punk
power-punk
crust-punk
gutter-punk
hardcore-punk
i realize im may be coming off like kind of a **** and thats not my intention, im just tired or these groups being over looked in these types of forums.
so please take this post merely as a constructive criticism, with a few suggestions.

oh and also the rest of the post is awesome.

Uggg...there are too many genres where people are just splitting hairs. The great thing about classical music is it took so damned long for anyone to get anywhere that each period actually lasted some time. Now we've got so many subdivisions in each genre we might as well call each chord progression a completely different style.

Folk Metal started in Norway and Sweden before any indication of a finnish movement, think Bathory (sweden) and Enslaved (Norway).

EDIT: also In the Woods... and and Einherjer from Norway

Don't forget Cruachan and Waylander from ireland

Really great work on the first few posts in this thread.

I wonder about bands like Living Colour, Bad Brains, Fishbone and 24/7 Spyz They fuse funky stuff into a more hard rock or metal format. I used to call this Funky Heavy Metal and defiantly considered it a sub-genre of metal.
