Well, I understand your points Embracethedeath.

As for chalice of ages, I'll break the tracks up.

Rites of desecration is based entirely on melody. Not melodeath, but melodic death; according to your definition (which I agree with btw)

Acherontic Epitaph's rif***e is pretty melodic. Not as melodic as Rites of desecration, but its melodic in an "epic" manner.

The monument is a cool song and the only melody is in the solo and the tremolo parts, which is okay since Dismember did that too. Not the specific type of melody that I associate with melodic death

Embers of a dying world is loaded with melodic riffs. so is Chalice of ages

I dont have the other songs from the album. I'll listen to the rest of it later

Yeah, tbh, it really could be considered a melodic death metal album. Funny you mention Dismember. Their Like An Everflowing Stream album will always be considered pure dm, but the melody on that album is undeniable. It could easily be considered a melodic death metal album also. I dont really know what it is with genre tags but they seem to be pretty inaccurate most of the time

I agree with the innacurate genre tags comment. Its all down to personal preference.

So who here likes gorguts? People seem to have an assortment of views on them. For the most part, i think their first two albums are pure gold, while Obscura and From Wisdom to Hate are both very different but just as good. it seems that most people either like their first two only or their last two only. Very awesome band though

HAHAHA! Carnifex and Through the Eyes of the Dead are not "Pure" death metal. While Through the Eyes of the Dead's "Malice" release was pretty death metallish, Carnifex are typical deathcore. I like them and everything, but hahaha. No, they are not death metal.

Don't even get started on this. You will get a 4 page lesson on the various ways that 'Chugga Chugga' becomes a brand new genre.

The only difference between the two is that deathcore has the aforementioned chugging.

And pathetic vocals and a lot of breakdowns.

Necrophagia's Harvest Ritual is awesome.
