There is no "greatest drummer of all time", but if there was, Buddy Rich would win hands down.

That being said, there are still lots of really great drummers:
John Bonham (the best rock drummer of all time IMO), Danny Carey (just...*drools*), Mike Portnoy, Neil Peart (him and Portnoy are prog gods), Carter Beauford (I hate DMB but this guy is good), Joey Jordison (double bass freaK), Igor Cavelara (sp?...creative, unique, and metal), Dave Grohl (best rock drummer of my generation), Elvin Jones (jazz monster, RIP)...Krupa, Bellson, Thomas Lang, Colliuta (sp?), Gadd, Weckl, Barker, Spug, Moon...etc.

Lists like this could go on forever. There are tons of great drummers, most of which bring something new and different to the table. These guys aren't exactly all my faves by any means, but I can respect what they do and the enormous talent that they all have.

Lars is not on my list for the simple reason that...I hate him. Nothing he did was ever amazing...just standard.

I'm going to guess that you play drums. You've got this thing down, and this probably sums up this topic very well. I totally agree that Dave Grohl is probably the best rock drummer for our generation. And, are you familiar with Danny Carey's solo project? He came to my town, and my friends tell me his performances are "x-rated". Do you know what Im talking about?

New??!

*Ahem* Anyways, John Dolmayan from System of a down is an awesome drummer.. Not the greatest but noones mentioned him and I reckon he deserves credit.
