Well personally, I think Mustaine is better than all of those. Don't get me wrong though, they're good guitarists. I think attitude and coolness plays a big part in making him a god (in my books). But if I was judging them as guitarists, I wouldn't let that cause any bias. I didn't mention his lyrics either.

Mustaine isn't even my favourite rhythm guitarist. I think Jon Schaffer (Iced Earth) is better.

Apart from being an awesome rhythm guitarist and songwriter who can also do lead duties, he's badass. He absolutely owned some guy at a concert who was pointing a laser at him - I have the sound recording.

Also, despite the fact he's no Bruce D1ckinson or Mercury, he has a lot of good healthy thrash anger in his voice.

I agree with everything you've said.

Mustaine is brilliant.

I think Mustaine while being a little more lead oriented, is a good combo of rhythm and lead abilities (obviously no Jon Schaffer in the rhythm departmen, but who is?) His singing isn't good, but the fact he can sing AT ALL while playing the **** he does is a feat in and of itself.

Blain 05-12-2006 05:52 PM

I didn't understand that statement much but let me try and cut it down to what I understood.

His guitar playing is amazing but he is no John Shaffer, his vocals aren't great but he does amazing riffs and amazing tunes while singing?

Is that right LoL!?

I understood it perfectly. I can't see what was wrong with it, apart from it a typo and a missing full stop which didn't obscure the meaning.

Laces Out Dan! 05-13-2006 01:53 AM

I Gave'r a not really

Blain 05-13-2006 02:45 AM

Meh. :(

The Dave 08-31-2006 09:24 AM

Megadeth is okay, they're inbetween okay and amazing, i've got a couple of albums.

under 08-31-2006 07:33 PM

Ehh, they're ok, not really what my taste is though but I like his voice.

ShadowSurfer 09-01-2006 05:27 PM

Megadeth is a great metal band. They were always a touch more frantic than the others. Nobody else sounded like Megadeth. The way Dave wrote songs was original and the early backbone of Metallica. Dave kept a more metal edge on the early LPs though, Killings My biznezz is much more agressive than Kill Em All.

shiftael 09-05-2006 04:31 PM

if there was a 'meh' option then I'd vote. I don't detest them, and back in the day I sorta liked some of their early stuff

QueenNothing 01-31-2007 10:08 AM

Dave Mustane(Former member of Metallica!! >__>) is awesome! He totally made a sweet comeback after Metallica..

The Unfan 01-31-2007 11:58 AM

Megadeth's music is pretty good, though I really hate Dave Mustaine as a person.

MayorMcCheese 02-03-2007 05:10 PM

yes best songs are Hangar 18, Symphony of Destruction and Peace Sells

onepointsixone 05-16-2007 12:05 PM

Megadeth

i was looking foward to it alot as Megadeth are one of my all time favourite bands. i guess deep down i knew it was gonna suck but i just didn't wanna believe it! Gears Of War is good though and one riff on Sleepwalker that has a take no prisoners vibe is pretty cool. oh well....

jackhammer 05-17-2007 03:47 PM

Barely nobody has mentioned PEACE SELLS-which is the album that broke them in a big way and to many older and balder people (like myself) stands up as their finest album.

Although they are labelled as thrash, they have a lot of other styles creeping into their music-while not easily detectable-they are there and that is why they maybe split opinions. Listening back to their music , it's surprising how ahead of it's time their music was, with the time changes and other genre influences creeping in.

I have got their new one and it's not bad-very tempted to see them in July.

Seen them twice way back in late 80's at a gig called CLASH OF THE TITANS-SLAYER-MEGADETH-TESTAMENT-SUICIDAL TENDENCIES-what a gig!

LazyFingers 05-22-2007 05:28 PM

That sounds like the best gig ever, Megadeth and Testament, wow! I saw Megadeth (Dave Mustaine) live two years ago, and though it woulda been so much better with a few "real" members it was still the best gig of my life!

The new album is a big let down IMO, I love Never Walk Alone though.

And I thought The System Has Failed was an unbelievably great album! I loved pretty much ever song. My favorite album though is Cryptic writings.

eddie1 05-26-2007 01:57 PM

I like megadeth

eddie1 05-26-2007 01:57 PM

Mostly Rust in peace

DearJenny 02-07-2008 10:53 AM

Tommypetrucci 02-07-2008 01:11 PM

Big Megadeth Fan

I'm a huge megadeth fan actually :p I'm going to see them in february which should be awesome! I will admit though that while they have some mind blowing songs (Holy wars...the punishment is due, Tornado of souls" Sometimes they do put in a kick ass solo to drag up a sub par song

Elv3n 02-07-2008 04:45 PM

I think Megadeth rule and with the awesomeness that is Ex-Metallicas Dave Mustaine! WOO!

JoeyD 02-07-2008 05:43 PM

I am going to see Megadeth at Gigantour in May! I can't wait, Megadeth is awesome!

Symbiosis 02-09-2008 06:42 AM

To me Megadeth went down the same path as Metallica. 4 great albums then it was all mediocre from there. I only liked about 4 songs off of Countdown to Extinction and I couldn't stand anything after that. Great band though. Too bad Mustaine has a problem keeping good members.

Mustaine IS Megadeth. Somehow I don't think he will relinquish control of his band .

jackhammer 01-30-2009 02:28 PM

Has anyone listened to the remastered and expanded editions of their albums. I'm just checking out Peace Sells at the moment and there is a definite improvement. I'm not usually keen on remasters if it's a metal album as it usually takes the rough edges off but this is excellent. I sometimes forget how damn good this album still sounds.

almauro 01-31-2009 09:53 AM

Killing is My Business is an excellent remaster. Still a landmark in speed, precision and heaviness.

I listened to the remaster, and I love it! But the "original" Peace Sells will always be one of their best and will always rule. Always. It's just amazing.

yomaster 04-06-2009 07:46 AM

New megadeth

Anybody fired up about it? I'm a long time fan and cant wait for it. Although I am getting pretty tired of all the lineup changes with the members. I wish Marty Friedman would come back.

The RIP remasters is terible. It ruins song like Take No Prisoners and Five Magics. IMO Dave Mustaine is the epitome of thrash. Megadeth were easily the most creative of the Big Four and Mustaine's ideas are gave Metallica their first 3-4 albums. After Master of Puppets, they just plummeted. You can't really knock his vocals that much. Not only does he mix it up, he looked for a vocalist, but couldn't fins one so he did it himself. That's why he's MegaDave.
KimB-RiP are must haves for any thrash fan.

Antonio 05-07-2009 09:00 AM

I have Peace Sells and Rust in Peace, both great albums. Megadeth is one of my biggest influences

and ZaborgZaloog, i wholeheartedly agree with them being the most creative in the thrash movement, most other bands at that time seemed stagnant compared to Megadeth

thisWARisours 05-07-2009 01:41 PM

Best like metal band ever!

Rust In Peace is like the best album I've ever heard, start to finish filled with awesome thrashing and solos.

thisWARisours 05-07-2009 02:45 PM

Tornado of Souls is the all-time greatest solo ever written!

Well, under Crazy Train lol.

ChiliColdBlood 05-07-2009 02:58 PM

Kinda pissed that Slayer/Megadeth is only going to Western Canada.

cheezyridr 05-07-2009 05:13 PM

i dg megadeth as much as anybody, but all the coolest riffs were played by marty friedman.

as for judas priest, they are the most awesome metal band that will ever exist. but they were actually the glenn tipton/kk downing band. they told everyone else how it was gonna be, the whole time. even rob.

yeah, it's not uncommon for one or two people in a band to control everything.
