but they are a Disney channel band and therefore suck

just like other bands that are on tv
like drake bell and naked brothers band and Hanna Montana and raven

Try the band "Operator" if you like Fuel. If you like Hammerfall, go old-school and check out Manowar or Helloween.

I'd recommend Disturbed. For a band that mainstream, they're actually quite good, and I'm thinking they might fit your tastes. Nothing too complicated, but very catchy and melodic metal.
