I know Kiedis is an assh0le and I prefer Mr. Bungle to RHCP but mocking victims of drug abuse is ignorant and cruel.

Nah. Boo's right I think. While neither band has released a great album in the past two decades, they've both got enjoyable albums and gobs of great tracks/singles. Are they a bit overrated and overplayed? Maybe. But they've had some serious hits.

BSSM is a great album (even if it could've done with some trimming). And Insomniac is a completely unsung pop-punk masterpiece. I mostly prefer the Offspring, but if I was only allowed one pop punk album, Insomniac is it.

Why not? Wasn't their second album produced by George Clinton?

I think they became less funk-oriented as they went on - but they've still got some great singles post-BSSM. I will admit though, after BSSM, there's no album from them that I've truly enjoyed as a whole (OHM comes close, sometimes). They became mostly a singles band after that in my eyes.

Californication is a good album that could have been great, it's just too bad Rubin f*cked up that mix beyond belief.

The greatest loudness war casualty of them all.
