you wouldn't need to. you could stop short and just say that they blow.

I like Dream Theater, and even think songs like Learning To Live show a lot of emotion.

:tramp: Ha ha!

Dream Theater annoy me, with their complexity-just-for-the-sake-of-being-complex. Also, the singer sounds a lot like Sebastian Bach from Skid Row.

That being said, most of "Train Of Thought" is very good.

If you're a DT fan, don't be mad at this thread. We all take our lumps for having descriminating taste in music. Believe me, I'm a King Crimson fan, Kate Bush fan, and a Tori Amos fan, so I've heard it all. So don't take it personally, just revel in the joy you get from one of your favorite bands, and keep telling people how great they are!

I love Dream Theater personally, their early stuff anyway. I still don't get tired of Change of Seasons, all 23 minutes of it.

They're a hit or miss band for me personally.
Some of their songs I love, others I don't...

Aside from Labrie, they're all fantastic musicians, Portnoy especially, they can pretty much play anything they want, so why they choose to play something so cheesy and derivative is beyond me.

Even for prog, theres still such a thing as being too robotic. Guys like The Mars Volta and Muse may not be as technical, but they have a raw energy that makes them more compelling. And then you have other bands like Ozric Tentacles who are just as technically gifted, but they are making something unique with what they have. DT should at least cut down on the wankage and try to do something more cohesive like Porcupine Tree are doing. And for gods sake get a new singer.

Dream Theater have been around a good while and they haven't shown a lot of progression in their career. Many of the great prog bands have evolved rapidly throughout their career, but Dream Theater have pretty much stayed the same.

Dream Theater were one of the first prog metal bands, so they deserve credit for that at least, but they mix prog and metal in such an plain and obvious way, personally I don't think they suit either genre very well.

Petrucci's solo career is good. DT is probably about the money more than anything.
