I like them... I get kicked for this all the time because there's apparently no emotion in their music and it's all about twiddly guitar bits. :p:

Which is stupid since different people are passionate about different things. I'm like my n00b more and more. And they say babies with teenage parents never come out right.

I hate them very much because I don't find any of their music even remotely rewarding, and the fact that they have a really annoying fanbase doesn't help.

Dream Theater are very high up on my bands that suck list.

They're just too wanky for my tastes, and I'm an ELP fan.

Scenes From A Memory isn't wanky in the least.

Even if it weren't wanky, it's one song. Are Metallica a country band because of "Mama Said"? No. Generally, DT are wankers.

To be honest, i think they would be much better if they were just intumental. Its there singer that really sucks.

Also, YouTube - Dream Theater - Metropolis is very good musically, (at least the drums) but the singing brings it way down.

Octavarium has no long solo's, Falling Infinity is a pretty musically tight album. But most of their albums have lot's of wankery. I like them because I think they do wanking very well.

No matter how much you hate them they still have musicianship to kick your ass so hard it comes out your mouth

horrible. good musicianship does instantly not make a good band.

I love Dream Theater. They have technical ability and originality. What more could you ask for?

Its not really the cheesiness of their music that bothers me. I like some cheesy music, that goes without saying.

Its more along the fact that their music just sounds very lifeless and robotic, and the band itself strikes me as stuck up and humorless. But most importantly, I simply don't like their music. Not my kinda prog.

Yeah and you know what GOOD MUSIC is don't you.

Their vocals are really the only thing that is cheesy.


I guess we listen to music differently. A couple of their albums are lifeless like Octavium and A Change in Seasons, but Scenes From a Memory and Train of Thought have soul in them. Along with Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence.

And the fact that you don't like music because it doesn't fit your taste sickens me.

Well at least theres one thing we can agree on, DT would be hella better without that dork LaBrie.

All I said was that I don't like them, I didn't say they were horrible and anyone who says otherwise is wrong.

And you know thats saying something when the rebuttal involves pointing out I like Modest Mouse and even boo boo says its bad.

I used to despise Dream Theater but I am starting to get into some of their albums. Systematic Chaos, Awake, and Images and Words are albums I am enjoying by them.

But all in all I agree that they tend to not consider the listener's interest when writing songs for much of their stuff.

And I'm not big hater or supporter. I guess I'll go with indifferent. I am a fan of Portnoy however. Especially his collaborations with Neal Morse.

His drum solo is one of their most popular songs...Says something about their fans.

What's the random band name? You could say I'm a fan of any genre because I like bands in them with that logic.

Although they might be a bit too pompous sometimes, I generally like them. Seeing them up in Manc this Friday with a few mates; should be good 'un. Especially if they play anything off ToT.

Yeah but there's a huge difference between hating something and not liking something but appreciating it's value.

I think The Velvet Underground & Nico album is a festering pile of dog poo but I can appreciate the originality & influence of it.

I didn't think this had anything to do with respecting the music. I thought the original person just said that they weren't into Dream Theater because they weren't what they were looking for in a band... and that's fair enough.

you can't deny this bands' technical skills, but i will go ahead and agree that they are wanky to the max. their fans are even worse. the lyrics crack me up too, sounds like he's singing about an RPG game or a sci fi movie most of the time...
