Anyway, as far as songwriting goes, I've always enjoyed early Aerosmith. Steven Tyler wrote some wickedly innuendo-laden stuff. Before MTV came along and he turned into a pop writing parody of himself.

Dude IMO...Zeppelin did write some pretty sweet lyrics...Ex. Misty Mountain Hop ( LOTR refernce ) ...BTW im not sure if i was true but i heard somewhere that the zeppelin IV was based on Lord of the rings...when you listen to some things it does make a lot of sense...

And if I'm delving into slightly more obscure folk lyricists anyway, (hats off to) Roy Harper: So good Zep named a song for him, and both the Floyd and Kate Bush (who by rights needs a mention here too) had him as a guest vocalist.

By choice I don't listen to them much myself, but feel obliged to tip the hat to the talents of Van Morrison, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Leonard Cohen and Bernie Taupin too. though I'd really rather hear someone else cover their tunes though.

And in no particular order, and because they haven't been mentioned yet (or often enough)
