Very nice call on Loop. Such a great band.

almauro 04-16-2009 04:26 PM

Orange Goblin - Big Black
Solace - Further
Acid King - Busse Woods

Dopethrone takes a while to get into, but it's worth it. Trouble, is amazing...from their debut thru Manic Frustration.

ChiliColdBlood 04-17-2009 11:59 AM

Damn, I just read through the thread and thought I was going to be the first to mention Orange Goblin.

I effin' love that band.

Sleep's last album "Dopesmoker" is phenomenal, two tracks, one clocking in at over an hour and the last one is like ten minutes.

dac 04-18-2009 08:53 AM

Any sort of post rock usually does the trick for me.

I will have to get some stuff by them. Nice varied list.

I remwmber that gig Lee..the singer fell on me when i was at the front not nice!

Loop, Kyuss, Monster Magnet, Dead Meadow, But Colour Haze and Clutch would be my top picks.

Burning Witch, no longer around and only released 2 demos that were later reissued as an album. very awesome music to get unbelievably stoned to.
Sunn O))), what came after the former

Witchcraft, my fav band that tries to sound like their from the '70s.

Mojo 04-21-2009 05:17 PM

Burning Witch were fantastic. I don't get stoned but if I did I'm not sure I'd do it to Burning Witch however as the vocals are a little too aggressive and I'd rather zone out but it's great stuff nonetheless. Sacred Predictions in particular is a fine track.

Dr_Rez 04-21-2009 05:24 PM

Ill be making a 2 part stoner rock compilation tonight, so be sure to check that out!

Antonio 04-21-2009 05:54 PM

alot of Clutch's early work is pretty stonerish

ChiliColdBlood 04-22-2009 08:54 AM

They're not strictly stoner rock, but whatever. Check out King Hobo.

If you want mellow, give Porcupine Tree a listen. They're probably one of the best progressive rock bands out there, man - and the tunes are great for "relaxation" time. I'd check out "Blackest Eyes," "Lazarus," and "Fear of a Blank Planet" and if you like it, go from there. Keep in mind though - the music is mellow as can be, but the lyrics get a little on the dark side from time to time.

mr dave 04-23-2009 06:32 PM

has anyone mentioned 'orange goblin' yet? specifically their big black album? it's freaking awesome

almauro 04-23-2009 06:45 PM

Yea...this is the third time. I'm glad Orange Goblin starting to see some action, here. I love Frequencies, Time Traveling, and Thieving just as much as Big Black. Some other bands that also have a heavy groove and impeccably tasty time changes: Alabama Thunderpussy, Sixty Watt Shaman, and Black Label Society.

mr dave 04-23-2009 07:00 PM

my bad, i was just too lazy to read through the thread :p:

I dont know what albums you have been listening to. Lazarus is off Deadwing which is a pretty heavy album. That song may be relaxing but the other nine or so are certainly not.. FOABP is also a pretty heavy album, with quite a bit heavily distorted riffs. And Blackest Eyes is FAR from relaxing, I mean when I play it through my speakers I feel the room vibrate.

ChiliColdBlood 04-24-2009 10:21 AM

For Orange Goblin fans: Check out Ravens Creed. It's Ben Ward's other band. I warn you though, they're NOT stoner rock. I saw 'em last summer, they kicked ass.

pahuuuta 04-24-2009 12:04 PM

why are people naming songs when he said band.

That's true about Deadwing being a bit heavy - I meant the song on it's own.

As far as Blackest Eyes goes, I meant the vocals really - the music's hard, yeah - but their voices is what relaxes me. Then again, that's just a personal opinion.

Time Travelling Blues is my favourite one. They're a great band. No B.S, just straight forward, loud stoner rock with no frills.

I've seen them as well and they were great. They have members or ex members of Sabbat and Iron Monkey too.

Dr_Rez 04-25-2009 08:39 PM

Iv said this before but if you enjoy OG you really should check out Colour Haze. They have a wealth of great albums, all of which are a bit different from the next. If your into long instrumental jams that go from ambient rock to near heavy metal and everything inbetween, then you will thank me. If not, well they are probably not your cup of tea.

That's one stoner band I've been wanting to check out. Can you make any album recommendations?

The Cat 04-26-2009 12:41 PM

Saw Colour Haze last night, they came on stage at around 1am and played for 2 hours, this was the first time that i have seen them live and being a big fan i was not disapointed they were fantastic a very talanted group who produce an amazingly tight sound for 3 people.
They were supported by a band called Bushfire, who were excellent sounded a bit like Monster Magnet does anyone know anything about Bushfire?
The concert was an event organised by Karlsruhe uni (Germany) called the Generator Stoner Festival. A nice small event (about 300 people) hopefully it will get bigger!

StonerRock.com - Reviews

But i suggest u just got with the Biggest Rock band right off the back

QUeens of the Stone age if u havent already i suggest u get all there albums

Automatic Slim 07-27-2009 07:24 AM

Someone might already have mentioned them, but High On Fire and Monster Magnet are incredible. It's hard to go wrong with them. Reiterating what others have said, Kyuss, QOTSA, and Sleep are essential stoner bands. Electric Wizard is excellent stoner metal, of the slow and doomy variety. I don't think I've seen Sixty Watt Shaman mentioned, but they were good. They only had a couple of albums.

If the original poster likes stoner rock, he'd probably like doom. I recommend the excellent Reverend Bizarre.

TumorAttitude 07-27-2009 09:05 PM

I made my mom listen to the Gorillaz's Demon Days and told me it was stoner music...I thought that was hilarious.
