[MERIT] 02-14-2008 01:45 PM

Im pretty sure Incesticide was after Bleach and Nevermind, wasnt it?

cardboard adolescent 02-14-2008 01:50 PM

released after, but a lot of the songs predate nevermind

Right on, I see where you're coming from. I was just making sure you weren't one of those "Nirvana sold out and signed with Geffen when they put out Nevermind" kind of people.

I tend to prefer In Utero to Nevermind myself.

abstractsolo4agirl 02-14-2008 07:36 PM

i think all of their albums were pretty good
i dont realy have a fovortie

white_powered_zombie 02-14-2008 11:44 PM

Bleach is really the only full album of theirs I like, whether they sold out after or not I couldn't care and don't have an opinion on that. Jus bleach is more dirty and thats what I love.

You simply do not care for Alice In Chains 'banonbush'. And that is your right! Like everyone else, You have your favorite styles of music that you like, & prefer to listen to. As for not respecting the opinions of others, That is your right to free speech. As for myself, I feel no need to impress anyone! (Just a thought)? To reflect on... In fairness to Cobain if I was stuck in a scene with bands like Alice In Chains , Pearl Jam & Soundgarden i'd probably want to shoot myself too.

I realize you're saying that in a facetious manner, but that really is a bastard thing to say to be perfectly honest.

sleepy jack 02-17-2008 02:09 PM

I don't think Kurt Cobain would disagree.

pheurton 02-17-2008 02:29 PM

Oh I don't know...I could think of worse things.
Like wishing he'd burn in hell for sinning against God for instance.

Is this supposed to be some jab at me for being a christian?

Comus 02-17-2008 05:06 PM

Don't be dissin Pearl Jam imho, Kurt would be digging them if he was still around.

cardboard adolescent 02-17-2008 05:12 PM

he was friends with vedder, if i'm not mistaken.
i think it was the fans rather than his peers that did him in

Comus 02-17-2008 05:20 PM

I seem to remember hearing that, and yeah, I think it was the limelight.

ObiSobi 02-17-2008 08:08 PM

Cliched as it may sound, the man was a genious. There is so much to discover with his music, I've heard every single song and I still find something new when I listen to the albums.

His mom kicked him out at 15, idiots were critisizing the love of his life, some rumor started that he and Love were unfit parents and his daughter got taken away for a few months, he had a chronic stomach condition causing him severe pain, he rememedied this with heroin, he quit heroin...

What do you think cause him to commit suicide?

He was touring while quiting, so he was tired, suffering withdrawels and the fantom stomach pains that haunted him his entire life.

If it were me, I'd be a tad sick of living too.

sleepy jack 02-17-2008 10:21 PM

Love of his life? Wasn't he about to divorce Courtney Love when he killed himself?

No? Where did you hear that? He just about murdered a reporter for taking Love's words out-of-context and stating that she used heroin knowing she was pregnent with FB (Frances Bean).

He and Love had their problems, but he loved her. In fact, just months before his death he was interviewed and stated that he was "The Happiest he's ever been" because of his family.

Comus 02-18-2008 02:02 AM

a lot can happen in a day, let alone a month.

Grant: “Kurt had called her a few weeks earlier, asking to have Courtney's name taken out of the will. That Courtney had called her a few weeks earlier, asking her to find the meanest, most vicious divorce attorney she could find. Now, of course, I'm seeing motive all over the place here.”

There's also several other sites that mention it on google.

You don't typically take the "love of your life" out of your will particularly if the consequence is divorce. That's also a pretty bad example to show his "undying love for her" because frankly most fathers wouldn't want it being said that their baby's mother was on heroin while the baby was in her womb. I see that as more love for Frances than for Courtney.

Maybe. I am open minded, but keeping in mind that Grant is a vulgar idiot.
His whole murder theory, and that TV Documentery (I think, or it was a book?) that he made looked to me like a way to capatalize on his knowing Cobain personaly, and his death.

I hope I'm thinking of the right Grant?

Anyway, I don't care how he died, or even that he died, the music is great nontheless. :)

sleepy jack 02-18-2008 04:49 PM

You're right about Grant but he's also right about certain facts. You don't just go around making up things like that and hope no one will call you on it.

Miltamec Soundsquinaez 02-18-2008 11:08 PM

yeah, it was definitely the success that did him in......
the only thing I find weird is that I'm pretty sure he dreamed of being the biggest rock star in the world when he was a kid,so you'd think he would be more primed for it.

I think it's interesting what his death has done to the world of rock. You will notice that there were several bands come out of that area, with the same musical style, and make very good music, with great success to go along with it, right about that time.
Now, it seems like everyone wants to not be the next Nirvana. I mean, everyone wants to be a huge success, celebrity not always withstanding.
Soundgarden came out with SuperUnknown in 1994, and they were supposed to become the biggest band in the world, and replace Nirvana. It didn't happen, because I think Chris Cornell and the band, they didn't want to tour much, or promote the album very much. They accepted a role of just kind of fading from the limelight, although they did have a few hit singles on that record.
Since Cobain's death, no band in rock has really been able to catch everyone's attention in a take over the world/genre sense. Radiohead are close, but they're so closed off, and sometimes I think that their attempt to be so un-mainstream/popular, it might hold back their music a little bit. Tool is another close band; again they're just behind close doors, and big expectations kind of killed their last album.
So in summary, I think everyone wants to be Kurt Cobain, but no one wants to be Kurt Cobain at the same time, particularly the latter.

Or it could be that the world didn't really feel like listening to a bunch of third rate Sabbath riffs with Cornell wailing over them.

Like it or not it was Oasis who replaced the gap filled by Nirvana. Maybe not in the US but around the rest of the world.

just thought i'd point that out

Well, that was in his suicide note, but he was quoting Neil Young (I believe). The fact that he said it had such an impact on Young that he recorded several songs in his honor.

Musique N Style 02-23-2008 04:00 PM

Nirvana is great. Their music wasn't exactly depressing but it had some sort of dark euphoria to it...it was happy all while being depressing, maybe it was a reflection of Kurt's life.

Thank you for the sarcasm...

I know it was a reflection of his life, I just meant in a way like we all have that dark euphoria to our lives and Kurt was one to really bring it out in people through music...thus attracting fans.
