The Official Nirvana/Kurt Cobain Thread

I was a big fan back when Kurt was still alive and things were going strong. However, I stopped listening to him after his death. I don't know exactly why, but now when I listen to the music again it bores me. It just doesn't do it for me anymore. What do you thinm of Nirvana?

banonbush 01-28-2004 01:47 PM

I really like Nirvana. When Kurt died, I went through a big Nirvana stage, like, only listening to them. But i still like them enough. Although lately i see all these 14 year olds with Kurt shirts on from Hot Topic. I'm not impressed.

JackJeckel 01-28-2004 07:55 PM

I love them, but like ^ said, all the little Nirvana bandwagon kids I've seen lately are irritating.

gothbabe2 01-28-2004 08:13 PM

Nirvana was good at the time...jst b4 kurt died but now u see lil kids with their nirvana hoodies.....really annoying that i went off them a couple of years ago

deadbolt 01-29-2004 02:50 AM

I never really liked Nirvana. I got there greatest hits things. but i only like one or two songs from it. dont get me wrong because not liking them doesnt mean i dont respect them. i truly respect nirvana for what they did for rock music. but they just dont cut it for me.

deadbolt 01-29-2004 02:54 AM

i dont mind the nirvana hoodies and all that lot although i'd never buy one for myself but it's when you see people with that kinda thing queing up for a good charlotte gig or summin. THAT p#sses me off.

banonbush 01-29-2004 08:14 AM

true deadbolt, wearing one to a good charlotte 'show'(more like ****-fest) is really over the top.

2tonelol 01-29-2004 01:53 PM

Nirvana for me were refreshing when they camr through, they kind of shook things up,to this day a band release a record(none spring to mind right now, typical)and instantly you go,"that's a bit nirvana-ish?!"
This is a sign of a good band, but for me the album to listen to is the MTV unplugged. With the knowledge that we have now some of the lyrics are haunting!! Go back and have a listen.

As for kids running round in nirvana tops, well at least they are delving into music history, how easy it would be to slag them all off if they had never heard of them!

CrashNburn 01-29-2004 04:27 PM

I like about 4-5 songs by Nirvana ..mainly the mainstream.I'm not mad about em..not really.I can't listen to a band that has only one theme, like being depressed and all.

ANYWAY
I prefer Alice In Chains of that genre

banonbush 01-29-2004 05:41 PM

eww. Alice in Chains is terrible. If any of you have never heard them, don't ever. Crash, as of now, i don't respect your musical opinions. Try harder next time to impress me.

MobilizeTerror 01-29-2004 09:09 PM

No one should have to impress you with their opinions ..Uhh back on topic, I like Nirvana they sound pretty cool loud, and I like to attempt to play drums to their music..

I wise man once said ...Nirvana is like walking into Wal-Mart...

Whatever that means...

I wasn't trying to impress anyone.

...I;m not looking for respect, just sharing opinions with cool people here.

:) Good Day all ... :p:

banonbush 01-30-2004 08:10 AM

I know buddy, it was joke. You guys simmer down, just joking around a little. Of course i respect your opinion, if i didn't i would be lame. If you like Alice in Chains, that's cool with me.

banonbush 01-30-2004 11:36 AM

cool

2tonelol 01-30-2004 12:20 PM

Do i hear kissing and making up?

Xarius 01-30-2004 10:32 PM

yes, yes you do.

I like Nirvana...I have Nevermind and the From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah...
Smells like teen spirit will always be one of my favourite songs.

banonbush 02-01-2004 10:47 AM

Xarius, you need to get insesticed. That one is my favorite i think. They are all really good, but that album just puts them over the top.

Xarius 02-04-2004 09:37 PM

what are some good songs from it? I used to have In Utero on tape, but lost it. :(

Edgil 04-05-2004 07:42 PM

Rip Kurt Cobain

10th death anniversary of Kurt Cobain... a Rock and Grunge icon that lives on in our hearts and stereos but whos soul is no longer with us...

Rest In Peace my dear friend

:band:

Xarius 04-07-2004 03:01 PM

rip

deadbolt 04-12-2004 06:18 AM

your dear friend? i don't think you were really that close. did you ever actually meet him?! i think nirvana should be respected, but they are so over rated. kurt cobain wanted to be left alone. one of he reasons he killed himself. yet all i could find on, mtv2, kerrang and scuzz was nirvana songs, all day everyday last week. i'm sick to death of them. rest in peace yea. and everyone just leave him the fuk alone.

Xarius 04-12-2004 06:56 PM

Yes, he wanted to be left alone. But I don't agree that he killed himself to escape it. Or that he even killed himself at all.

Kathryn 05-09-2004 08:22 PM

I dunno, I'm pretty sure he did kill himself. I mean, for all his fans, and Kurt Cobain had some loyal ones, it had to have hurt to see their hero go, that they couldn't beleive he'd bail on them and I think those feelings of hurt gave birth to the whole conspiracy theory surrounding his death.

wow deadbolt, taking a figure of speech a bit too literally are we?

Rock'n'roll_gurl 05-09-2004 09:52 PM

As Kurt Cobain said"it's better to fade away then to burnout"
Which is so true!!

ToranaGurl 05-09-2004 09:55 PM

Yep Kurt Cobain did say that" its better to fade away then to burn out" they were one of his last words.
and Nirvana did change rock history!!!
They rule and kurt cobain will never be forgotten

ummm i don't know if you're joking guys but you got his last words completly wrong! he said "it's better to burn out than fade away"! not the other way round. Different meanings people.
just thought i'd point that out

ToranaGurl 05-10-2004 06:48 PM

yer **** hey sorry yer it was the other way around **** oh well people make mistakes

Drifting_Angel 05-21-2004 03:48 AM

Kurt Cobain was on of the most influential rock icons in it's history.

There will never be a grunge band that surpasses the talent of Nirvana.

Enough said

R.I.P Kurt.

Drifting_Angel 05-27-2004 01:18 AM

I love Nirvana. Only started listening to them last year but man they rock!

Funny, I listened to the Foo Fighters before Nirvana...

Smells Like Teen Spirit s an awesome song... but after being able to play it I've become rather sick of it.

I have Nevermind, MTV Unplugged and The Greatest Hits.

Lix 05-30-2004 04:05 PM

Well, I have to say that Kurt died when i was 4, so i couldn't exactly have been a nirvana fan then. My mum won't even hear the name ;kurt cobain' without having a heart attack. She thinks he didn't deserve to live. I think that kurt cobain was one of the greatest musicians of our time, and he deserves our respect. Nirvana have been one of my favourite bands for about a year (the length in which i have been listening to rock music), and probably will be one of my favourite bands for life. Don't bag out the kids in Nirvana hoodies. It's not their fault they were only little kids when Nirvana died along with Kurt. It's just their way of showing their support for the scene.

northern_angel455 05-31-2004 03:43 PM

Still amazing...

I loved Nevermind, at the time, and still love it today. I was planning to go see Nirvana in concert when Kurt Cobain died and it still makes me irretrievably sad.

To be fair, I am a huge Beatles fan but wasn't even born when they were at the peak of their success. And many bands I love today I barely even noticed when they first came out. Fair play to the kids who are getting to love Nirvana now. Their music is still fresh, still amazing and still rocks. :usehead:

i love nirvana... they are a great band..

fannie-annie 06-03-2004 09:45 AM

I really like Nirvana, i wasn't around when they were large, and when kurt was alive, but now i reallyy like all their stuff. However, all that said, i do find the groupies who were the hoodies annoying, specially when they wear them just to be cool, that REALLY gets on my nerves! I suppose you could argue they are developing a sense of music... but they still annoy me, sorry!

NDHAYZ 06-07-2004 09:37 AM

to be fair i dont really listen to that much nirvana stuff, but what ive heard is good, and i like, my mates mad on them so tells me to "listen to this its kool" and they seem alright

Thrice 06-07-2004 05:55 PM

i like nirvana, i dont have their cd, but i did get the string version of it.

Sleepsnekkid 06-19-2004 04:37 PM

Nirvana

Ok, my friend Doogie-man had this really cool CD he got from a guy in MMA. All it consists of is classical covers of all of Nirvana's greatest songs. I know it sounds dorky, but it was so awesome to hear (especially while *ahem* under the weather).

If anyone has heard of this, or has it, could you plz tell me who its by, cuz I must have it, oh yes, I must.

Nirvana

Yeah, I know – they’re “grunge”. C’mon, “grunge” is just a lazy man’s way of saying ‘they’re from the Pacific Northwest’. While I can agree with Soundgarden and Pearl Jam being labeled “grunge”, I don't feel that Nirvana deserves the label. Nirvana’s sound, style and attitude is more fitting to the punk rock genre and, dammit, they contributed something positive to the music scene at a time when it was being ruled by the unoriginal, untalented ‘hair bands’ (Poison, Winger, Whitesnake, I’m talkin’ to you). For a few years, we had something exciting in the mainstream music world that was fresh and untainted by Corporate America. …and now the boy-bands, ‘debbie gibson’ clones, ‘rage against the machine’ clones and bubblegum pop-punksters rule the charts. God, I miss Kurt Cobain
