MTV was not mainstream when Cobain was alive. It was the cool cutting edge station with programming like Daria and Beavis and Butthead, and they played great music back then. Get this, they actually played entire music videos sometimes.

By the way I am not arguing against you or anything, just thought I'd point that out, were you alive when Cobain killed himself?

As did the 80s, from Black Flag to the Flaming Lips to the Smiths.
I am certainly not a fan of the 80's.

You just said "Thirdly, not many of the fans of the original grunge sound like Nickelback or post-grunge of any kind (I know I sure don't!)."
Yeah, exactly, I did. Nickelback is Post-Grunge, I hate Post-Grunge, I hate Nickelback.

Hes not a strong vocalist, and Heart Shaped Box isn't some deep song and you treat it like the meanings secret, hes talked about it in interviews and in the liner notes of In Utero.
Thats not the question I asked. I didn't ask you if the meaning of the song was a secret, I was wondering if you could really tell me what it was about after just listening to it.

As was brought out earlier, MTV was different back then. The book Journals (Even though I see this as an invasion of Cobains privacy, and therefor would never buy it) contains (according to reveiwers) several angry letters to MTV and people who tried to mess with his music.

This debating thing is fun, but I think we should stop. Or maybe take this somewhere besides the Beach Boys page?

Kurt Cobain was.

Okay point 1. you contradicted yourself I was pointing out. point 2. Why argue my point on Nirvanas influence being someone music could've done without then? You're not making any sense with this.

I'm sorry I don't spend my time listening to Cobains fragmented lyrics to decide what they mean. Upon hearing it I would think its about abusive relationship, cobain whining, and then him wishing to return to his mothers womb.

Well, typically even record companies won't let irate music listeners control what their band plays.

Yeah Nirvana are played very regularly on the radio. I don't know why you're trying to argue they don't get radio play.

I did not contradict myself. I said "I don't know many people who are fans of the original grunge sound who like Nickelback (I know I don't)". Then I said I hated post-grunge, then I said I hated Nickelback again. Where are you getting this contradiction?

Your right on that, I wasn't arguing. I was curious because my station never plays any .

Yeah, but still hair metal was on its way out. You can't carry on a self-destructive attitude for a decade. I think Nirvana are given too much credit with 'killing' hair metal. Anyway saying Nirvana killed 80s music is ridiculous, didn't Use Your Illusion come out in the 90s?

I misread your post actually. Anyway, I know several post-grunge fans who are fans of grunge, and vice versa. Except for the grunge elitists most like both because they sound the same, one just came later.

Yeah Nirvana gets played to death here where I live, even on the classic rock stations.

Let's agree to disagree. I think we both made some vallid points, and who knows, maybe we're both right .

For the record, the argument was fun while it lasted .

There's several Nirvana songs I really enjoy. That being said I'd say they were overated.

-"I really haven't had that exciting of a life. There are a lot of things I wish I would have done, instead of just sitting around and complaining about having a boring life. So I pretty much like to make it up. I'd rather tell a story about somebody else."

-"Punk is musical freedom. It's saying, doing and playing what you want. In Webster's terms, 'nirvana' means freedom from pain, suffering and the external world, and that's pretty close to my definition of Punk Rock."

-"The worst crime is faking it."

-"Wanting to be someone else is a waste of the person you are."

-"It's better to burn out than fade away."

-"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not."

-"If you die you're completely happy and your soul somewhere lives on. I'm not afraid of dying. Total peace after death, becoming someone else is the best hope I've got."
