Protest the Hero

This band has been an interesting journey to me.
The first song by them I ever heard, "Sequoya Throne", I instantly hated. Rody's vocals turned me off instantly. I couldn't pay attention to the real artistry behind his voice.
Then somehow I gave them another listen. This time it was their first LP, "Kezia" (which I still do not know how to pronounce correctly). Anyway, I also didn't like it that much, but I had it on in the background of an intense ladder session on Starcraft, so I couldn't change the album. Ha.
I quickly found myself loving a lot of different parts of the album. Then the whole thing. I couldn't stop listening to it. I then picked up "Fortress", and it was like nothing I have ever experienced. I now appreciated Rody's amazing range and loved his stylistic patterns over the absolute glory that is the instrumental.

Now, I have all three albums signed and framed on my wall, along with countless tour shirts, and a desire to live in Canada.

Any bands ever done this to you? I find it hard to understand why certain things can grow on you so well. Metal in general does this, as I am sure we have all experienced. Especially in the extreme categories. It's a strange wall to get over, and I truly wonder what it takes for someone to want to "get into" it. I'm sure you have all at one point tried to show a friend a great metal song, and they hate it. And you are shocked and cannot understand how their ears just don't pick up the awesome sounds.

Maybe I over think things.
