There's no real set criteria for what qualifies as a 90 band in this thread. So I am now going to set it.

Band that formed in the 90s and released at least 1 album in the 90s.

jaktheslaier 04-29-2008 09:09 AM

my favs are:
1-nirvana
2-pearl jam
3-foo fighters
4-soundgarden

British_pharaoh 04-29-2008 09:14 AM

Smashing Pumpkins, Blur

Zer0 04-30-2008 02:20 AM

But what about bands that formed in the 80's yet released their best material in the 90's?

If that's the case, my top 10 would be:

1. Smashing Pumpkins
2. Pearl Jam
3. My Bloody Valentine (80's/90's whatever!)
4. Pantera
5. Placebo
6. Nirvana
7. AFI
8. At The Drive-In
9. Machine Head
10. Tool

I dont follow his rules. My definition of a good 90's band is a band that released good music mostly in the 90's. Simple as.

Well crap thats awfully specific, a lot of the 90s most relevant artists formed in the 80s.

My picks

Nirvana
Bjork
Radiohead
Smashing Pumpkins
Primal Scream
Beck
Pearl Jam
Red Hot Chili Peppers
My Bloody Valentine
Janes Addiction
Flaming Lips
Blur
Rage Against the Machine
Portishead
Massive Attack
DJ Shadow
Elliott Smith (STFU Ethan)
Pavement
Air
Tool
Slint
Fugazi
Dr. Dre
Alice In Chains
Mr. Bungle
Ozric Tentacles (best prog band of the 90s? They got my vote)
PJ Harvey
Soundgarden
A Tribe Called Quest
Yo La Tengo
Primus
Wu Tang Clan
Pantera
The Verve
Phish
Incubus
Spocks Beard
Wilco
Company Flow
The Melvins

Sonic Youth
Public Enemy
Foo Fighters (Colour and the Shape was good at least)
Weezer (whatever Ethan The Blue Album is awesome)
U2 (if only for Atchung Baby)
Other stuff

To sum it up. My taste is way too undiscriminating for its own good.

KeithMoon2112 05-08-2008 07:58 PM

Collective Soul...followed extremely close by Third Eye Blind.

bluesintheshoes 05-08-2008 09:41 PM

Third Eye Blind prob. I listened to them none stop. (They are really good live too!) Alice in Chains, STP, and so on and No worries to who ever said Toad the Wed Sprocket...Your not the only fan!

RoemerMW 05-08-2008 10:42 PM

The Magnetic Fields, Red Hot Chili Peppers

Lizzie 05-08-2008 11:15 PM

If its not secluded just to bands in the rock and metal genre,

I'd say The Magnetic Fields, Neutral Milk Hotel, and Radiohead

Maxwellwebb 05-09-2008 04:47 AM

Well, although Muse was around in the 90s, I will have to say Foo Fighters.

sl1ck 05-11-2008 07:15 PM

Probably Pavement. They released all of the material during the 90's, and all 5 albums were solid. 3 of the 5 albums were exceptional, and 1 of them (Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain) was a masterpiece. Their last two were good, but not on par with the others.

Billy_Martin 05-12-2008 09:40 PM

Blind Melon
Gin Blossoms
Live

Raust 05-15-2008 02:32 PM

Nirvana for me, they had a very heavy impact in the 90's.

Yes i suppose that would be true.

ProggyMan 05-16-2008 09:23 AM

*favorite* According to Ethan's formula they're not a 90's band though.

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-16-2008 09:27 AM

Who died and made him God ?
I still say Primal Scream and I couldn't give a flying **** if they formed in 1982 or not.

ProggyMan 05-16-2008 09:29 AM

I was totally being serious.

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-16-2008 09:31 AM

and?

sleepy jack 05-16-2008 10:00 AM

Well some sort of criteria needed to be set up because this thread was pretty poorly made. I mean people were mentioning bands that released like...one album in 1990.

Alfred 05-19-2008 10:51 AM

The Foos released three albums in the '90's, which contained hits such as "Monkey Wrench", "Everlong", "Learn To Fly", and "My Hero", in case that was aimed at me.

spark10036 05-19-2008 11:46 AM

I 'll choose Radiohead

Loser 05-19-2008 01:29 PM

Pearl Fucking Jam!!!!!

Commodore 05-20-2008 05:41 PM

Cake, Vertical Horizon, or RATM. Kinda all over the board with that one I suppose.

mamanuthead 05-22-2008 09:14 AM

Stone Temple Pilots
Pearl Jam
Nirvana
Live

Sayzs 05-26-2008 11:04 AM

Well...
Radiohead
Alice In Chains
Nirvana
Soundgarden

There's less then I thought it would be.
