Yeah, just read it as top five bands that make "modern metal" look bad.

supermarlin 12-17-2010 05:14 PM

1.Children of Bodom
2. Lamb of God
3. In Flames
4. Trivium
5. Slipknot

Modern but a thread that is years old? classic definition of an oxymoron.

Judging by the bands posted though it still is years old.

Mrd00d 12-20-2010 01:11 AM

  1. Animals as Leaders
  2. Canvas Solaris
  3. Mastodon
  4. Scale the Summit
  5. Shadows Fall

I'm mostly into instrumental music, but definitely got open ears. I'm really touchy about vocalists, because often times they are ruining a great sound the others got going. :shycouch:

Megadeth
Children of Bodom
Machine Head
Trivium
Early Avenged Sevenfold

trivium and avenged are within the last 10 years, so they are definately modern.
children of bodom's first album came out in 1997, so they haven't really been around that long. i mean, i assume you have heard blooddrunk. that album sounds kinda modern.
i mean, i guess you really couldn't class megadeth as modern, but i guess that depends entirely on your definition of "modern".

that said, this is only my opinion.

supermarlin 12-21-2010 09:17 PM

change In Flames to Mastodon, I apparently forgot about them -.-"

Not exactly sure what modern is supposed to mean or if metal in this context encompasses hardcore etc, but here goes in no particular order:
Slipknot (nu-metal)
Attack Attack (hardcore I know but amazing nonetheless)
Periphery (sorta prog metal/sorta hardcore)
Limp Bizkit (rap-metal but they count right?)
Dope (nu-metal)

I'm not too into the straight up metal genre because all the singers bug me and death metal growlers sound like retards.

I'd argue that they're not actually a metal band but I do agree agree that they're amazing.

To me, Modern Metal is a band whose first LP is released in the year 2000.

Anyways here is my list, in no particular order:
3 Inches Of Blood
Mastodon
Lamb Of God*
Killswitch Engage
The Black Dahlia Murder

*Burn The Priest does not count
If I could list a 6th band I would say Dethklok.

Great list right here. Mastodon, Baroness, and DEP are all awesome bands, and BTBAM is pretty sweet too.

Yer "Bloodrunk" is modern, its the perfect example of a poor generic melodic death rock album, that would largely appeal to a metalcore fan.

Megadeth are not modern but they keep metal respectable.

Attack Attack! is a Post-Hardcore band so they should not even be in this list, though I would still think this list is terrible even if they were removed.
