You'll have to send me a picture of a 400 pound midget so I'll know it's you and then I can write on it and send it back.

Iced Gems 04-17-2005 05:01 PM

haha

not sure i have the energy to find one right now

but i;m not believe me........

Trauma 04-17-2005 05:03 PM

Well I really can't believe you, that's the beauty of the internet. :p:

Iced Gems 04-17-2005 05:05 PM

surely this is off topic snickers...

shouldn't i have to stick to extolling the ringpiece like virtues of mr reznor

Trauma 04-17-2005 05:06 PM

I'll have to talk to you on AIM or something in a couple days so I don't get yelled at for spamming the whole forum.

Iced Gems 04-17-2005 05:07 PM

FunkyFish 07-05-2005 01:26 PM

Nin

I bought the new album not so long ago and it has nothing on the classics

I think its respectable but it has lost something essential

Fenixpunk 07-05-2005 01:33 PM

i dont like the new NIN song, havent heard anything else off the album though. Last album by them i had was Broken.

EDGE 07-05-2005 01:37 PM

Yeah, Ive only heard that new song. Nothing else. I'm a big fan of the band, but I haven't heard the rest of the album. Should I?

FunkyFish 07-05-2005 01:39 PM

It isn't in my opinion worth it but you need to get it to form your own opinion

Can't say no to this :D. NIN + free music = heaven

Farfisa 05-06-2008 06:37 AM

I went through like 50 NIN threads and I would suggest that someone make an official thread so I don't have to see "new NIN album OMG!!" and "NIN sucks" again.

tkpb938 05-06-2008 07:00 AM

Wow. Trent Reznor owns.

The Unfan 05-06-2008 09:26 AM

I've always liked Trent as a person, but think he fails musically about 70% of the time. This album is moderately okay, the second half is rich in texture and almost brooding at times, but the first half feels slightly weak.

OK-all NIN discussion in here now and I will rename the thread. Other NIN threads have not been used for a while so I will refrain from deleting them due to search engine links etc.

Nairmb 05-06-2008 02:07 PM

I just listened to the album and I agree with Unfan, the second half is much better than the first.

Shiva 05-06-2008 04:09 PM

Gotta love Trent =]

Zer0 05-07-2008 03:03 AM

Had a listen to it last night. Not as good as previous material but it's still ok. Maybe after a few more listens it will reveal itself a bit more.

SATCHMO 07-06-2009 01:38 AM

I think Pretty Hate Machine was a work of absolute genius, but everything went quickly downhill after that.

Yeah it's like a downward spiral or something

S_Shinji 07-06-2009 11:37 AM

NIN has been my favorite band for about a year now. My favorite album is cliche, but it has to be TDS.

S_Shinji 07-06-2009 11:42 AM

Actually to rank their albums I would go

TDS
PHM
The Fragile
Broken (ep whatever)
Year Zero
With Teeth
The Slip
Ghosts

scottsy 07-06-2009 10:12 PM

I loved the Fragile... and recently got hold of a copy of Ghosts, which is actually kinda cool to these ears.... but I am somewhat of a sucker for darker flavored instrumental type music...

S_Shinji 07-06-2009 10:19 PM

Ghosts is great but it just can't compare with his other work.

loveissucide 03-10-2010 01:34 PM

Pretty Hate Machine is great stuff, holds up flawlessly. Shame that can only be said about half his later work.

SGR 09-12-2010 05:16 PM

Listened to The Downward Spiral today,(haven't listened to it for a long time) and man, is that a damn good album.

Most of his albums are great, but he will never be able to top the Downward Spiral. Though I love all the industrial stuff in it, I think my favorite song on the album will always be Hurt.

Yeah, Hurt is great. The Johnny Cash version is incredible as well.

There are so many good tunes on TDS but my 3 favorites would probably be The Becoming, Piggy, and Hurt.

duga 09-14-2010 02:23 PM

I have a soft spot for Reptile...something about all the crazy noises going on in that song that just does it for me. So I guess if I had to pick 3 it would be Hurt, Reptile, and Piggy.

Edit: That sample in the beginning of the Becoming is from a movie called Robot Jox...one of the most hilariously corny sci fi movies ever conceived. I used to watch that movie a lot as a kid. One day it was on tv and a scene where a robot crushed a bunch of bystanders was on and all the screams sounded very familiar. I put on the Becoming and sure enough, it was the same sample. I loved Trent even more after that day.

Yeah, I like Reptile a lot, I think it leads into The Downard Spiral(song) very well. Unlike you though, I found out he sampled that movie through good ol' Wikipedia. I always chuckle at the end of The Becoming when Trent goes real high pitched, and yells "It won't give up it wants me dead, god damn this voice inside my head!" :)

From what I'd heard, Trent intended to "reinvent" the band and/or their sound. The track sounds ok but doesn't sound anything like a reinvention to me. I really think it's his vocals since With Teeth that get in the way of really enjoying his music. Don't get me wrong, each album since has had a few great songs, but as a whole all the albums have a similar sound because of his vocals. There's no longer the obvious different that existed between Pretty Hate Machine, Broken, The Downward Spiral, and obviously The Fragile. I really wish he'd done something different vocally. I think it's something he fails to realize ties together everything he's done after The Fragile.

Janszoon 06-06-2013 10:41 PM

I totally agree. And it's not just his singing, it's the way the writes vocal melodies. Even on the How to Destroy Angels stuff, it's still distinctly his vocal style even with his wife singing it.

One thing I learned after listening to Nine Inch Nails for 8 years is every album stands alone.

Cuthbert 04-25-2020 03:43 PM

Anyone checked the two new albums? Got good reviews but right now I'm going through their discography. I've only heard The Downward Spiral, The Fragile and With Teeth. All many years ago.

I did. They're pretty good ambient albums. Not your typical NIN album. It's a continuation of their Ghosts series where they just create with out a real aim or focus.

If I remember right, the original Ghosts songs were them just jamming out a song every day for a while. Or every week. I don't remember.

Edit: The Ghosts series is all instrumental, not vocals.

Cuthbert 04-25-2020 04:22 PM

Both of the new ones are ambient albums? Thought only one of them was.

I'll still check. Bit disappointed if there are no vocals.

Cuthbert 04-28-2020 03:12 PM

Pretty Hate Machine is really good.

I've been meaning to listen to it since 2005.

All I know of the ambiance is this, but I did love it.

Anteater 04-28-2020 08:30 PM

Pretty Hate Machine is still the best thing Reznor has put out, but I love the original Quake soundtrack to death too.
