Does metal require anger and power?
I love all kinds of music, but something about injustice, anger and a desire to be more powerful always seems to flow through metal with me. How does it make you feel?
|
I don't really see Iron Maiden as being a particularly angry band.
|
I think thats more of an after effect. It draws a certain type of person to it [metal] and because of that, it breeds angry bands. Not to say that they are playing to an audience, I just think angry kids are inspired to play metal. When they do, they have to be angry.
I still strongly suggest that its very Machiavellian. If you can't be loved then be feared. And these anti-social akward bastards live vicariously through their Viking Overlords until they've convinced themselves that their the same way. I really really hate metal kids. I'm sorry you aren't the life of the party with your filthy hair and your shoe gazer mentality, but make a ****ing effort, we're not all going to come to you. /rant |

anger? Not necessarily.
Power? I would say not required but it is extremely recommended (so to speak). Metal is a very powerful genre. |

Metal = energy and aggression, not necessarily anger
I think that's a fairly laconic summary - obviously there are exceptions though. |

In answer to the original question posed, metal makes the feel the need to play air guitar, drum on my steering wheel, and sing badly. :thumb: I try not to listen to it in the car too much now adays, since I suddenly transform into a NASCAR driver when it plays for some reason... |

I don't really find metal more aggressive than any other form of music.

There are exceptions of course... but generally (imo) Metal is more in your face, rock n roll. Why do you think Metal isn't more aggressive? |
not really

So what are some examples of Metal bands/songs that would prove other wise to those people? |

I think the term "hard rock" exists for a reason. Zeppelin did really heavy songs that certainly sound metal, like Communication Breakdown. But calling them metal is a serious example of pigeonholing. Zep were certainly an influence on metal, and though they were very intense and energetic they certainly weren't angry.
When you look at a lot of the hard rock bands who were an influnce on heavy metal other than Black Sabbath. Like Deep Purple, AC/DC, Queen, Uriah Heep, KISS, Blue Oyster Cult, Rush, UFO, Thin Lizzy, Budgie, Hawkwind, Aerosmith. These bands weren't really angry, just very heavy (for the time) and that just branched into what we now indentify as metal. |
i hate when people hear harsh vocals and ask "why are they so angry?" you don't have to be angry to yell/scream/shout/growl
|
And lets not forget power and progressive metal. Not really angry.
And then theres Van Halen. http://www.anniemayhem.com/blog%20pics/VanHalen.jpg Happy metal. :) |
*g ay metal
|
Van Halen are awesome.
If you want *** metal, try Manowar. |
