oh come on man. i can at least understand why you'd like those other artists but Interpol hasn't lived up to the hype at all. those one-off albums that come out every few years aren't really indicative of talent, just critics misappropriating whose ass to shove their faces in.

No man, it is totally true. I may have heard something on PlanetRock before but I dont have any of their albums and cant name their songs im afraid. Ive heard there Prog Rock.
I first heard of them on these music forums & got mixed up at first with an avant garde band called 'King Missile' who are extremely weird and most people wouldnt like them although people like Zappa so I guess it's possible.
Anyway anybody got any first album recommendations for King Crimson.
I get the impression there one of the 'unsung' or lower profile Prog Rock bands such as 'Devo' or 'Camel' whom somebody introduced me to not that long ago and they are not bad bands.

Yeah this is pretty much what i was trying to say. It just isnt Rock as I would class it. I get what youre saying with them being around before Rush & Sabbath etc but I still wouldnt use the phrase 'more rock' than Sabbath or Rush. Also I think that people have different perceptions of genres obviously the core of the genre is still relevant but Ive had people say to me 'whats that headbanging your listening to?' & Ive been listening to Neil Young lol & I wouldnt class that as being 'heavy' as such.
I wouldnt even class Sabbath as being that heavy either tbh as I listen/have listened to much heavier stuff than that.
But fair enough man, youre entitled your own opinions as I am with mines

Actually I don't think you do get what I'm saying. Them being around before those two bands is not what I'm talking about. I'm saying that the Beatles' music has more in common stylistically with early rock n roll (i.e. Chuck Berry, Little Richard, etc.) than a band like Rush does. And since the term "rock n roll" was invented to describe the music made by people like Chuck Berry and Little Richard it can be argued that the closer you come to that particular sound the more rock you are.

Incidentally, I'm not saying that Rush and Black Sabbath aren't rock. They are. I'm just saying that they're further removed from what the term "rock" was originally coined to describe.

Oh come on man, SF Sorrow is great, but outside of that it gets pretty meh.

Interpol probably made it in because I'm rediscovering them (if you could call it that) lately. The list was surprisingly tough make though, as most of my listens over the past 6-12 months have been from trip hop and post rock. I will say The Church and Can have been slowly creeping up though.

Maybe I didnt go into enough detail but obviously I know that Beatles style of rock is more closer to original rock & roll compared to the likes of Black Sabbath or Rush.
I thought it would have been too obvious to actually have to say it.
After all you do have to listen to music to judge it anyway.
My perception of 'Rock' (probably due to personal preference) is more accustomed to bands like Rush or Black Sabbath other than original 'Rock & Roll' as you had mentioned.
This would be why I described The Beatles as not being a 'rock' band in my eyes, which I still kind of agree to(to a certain extent).
Perhaps it would be more suitable to place them as an 'original' rock band but then they had their own sound and all that so its hard to place them.
Certain bands (of whom a lot I do not like) have their own distinctive 'mark' or 'sound' on music (if you know what i mean..) such as U2 for instance, their high pitched air guitar sound has been mimicked/copyed by 90% of the new 'Indie Rock' bands; Snow Patrol, Kings of Leon (recent sell out period) & Coldplay to name a few.
