How about a novel idea the Beatles? Emphasis on melody instead of blues driven guitar playing or taking rock music away from 1-4-5 chord progressions, the Ricky Electric 12 string guitar, jangle sound, backward guitar, intentional feedback, looped guitars, basically started the Leslie guitar sound. George Harrison was the first rock guitarist to play the sitar, tamboura, and swarmandal on rock records. The distortion sound on "Revolution' was done by direct injection by overloading the channel. "I Feel Fine" combines intentional feedback with a riff-driven based guitar song. How novel was that concept. Led Zeppelin who!

Why the hell would Synyster Gates be anywhere near the top 200?

I can honestly say (or should I say I think) he wouldnt make my top 200. Its a tall order to even compile a list but I highly doubt he would make it anywhere near.

Synyster is good. But not top 200 material. I agree.

Seen him live and he hits every note verbatim. Not saying he's top 200, but he does his own thing pretty well.

This is just my opinion, I'll add a few more names to it and then I want to start my little blog project.
Like I said in an earlier post, nice list. When I first read it, I was a bit surprised that BB King and Buddy Guy weren't on the list, but I read your above explanation and accepted it. THEN, I heard BB King and Buddy Guy together on the Grammy's (with John Mayer and Keith Urban), and was blown away by Buddy Guy especially. So, I'm making a pitch for Guy to not only be on the list, but to be in the top 10! If you consider Stevie Ray Vaughan as blues rock, then Guy HAS to be, too. Just take a listen to tracks from his latest album--there are 3 songs on this site, and especially "Best Damned Fool" rocks.

If that isn't blues rock, then I'm...well...heterosexual. Name: t2626.gif

Size: 1.1 KB I'm willng to draw the line with BB King as strictly blues, but Buddy Guy is a maniac on the guitar, and it ain't just the blues....

jimi hendrix sucks! sure he was good for his time and stuff and he is good at slow stuff but kirk hammet can beat him at soloing, michael angelo batio is the best guitarist there is, or maybe dimebag darrell from Pantera.
