I'd say Tenacious D is a stretch as well. What's so fake there? Alright, so there's fiction about them. It's still a real band. :p

I hate Dethklok and it kinda disappoints to see that so many of you support there poorly written, repetitive, boring, generic music

I see the Lonerangers has been mentioned. But I got another one: Cherry Bomb! The band from Howard the Duck. "Don't Turn Away" and "Hunger City" were great songs!

Dethklok and Psychostick are pretty funny. Some people take Dethklok seriously, and it's just kind of sad.

There's so many good "fake" bands. Other than some mentioned, my favourites would have to be Munchausen by Proxy from Yes Man and Sex Bob-omb, Crash and the Boys, and The Clash at Demonhead from Scott Pilgrim.
