It was a worthy effort I thought... in spite of the whole rehashing their old style thing... I still like it!

most everyone says the same thing. . . its better than their load and reload albums but it doesnt even compare to MoP and RtL

A fair assessment I think... this thread is thus getting a little old and stale...

The poll might have been more revealing if it had people rate the album on a scale of 1-5 or 1-10.

It's no classic, but it doesn't suck. I reserve that term for anything with a score of 2 or less out of 5. Anyway, here's how I'd rate the individual tracks:

Come on. This is about the heaviest these old farts are gonna' get. Would I choose to listen to it? Probably not. I disowned them when the black album came out, but I'd call the album, at the least a step in the right direction.

My favourite track is All Nightmare Long and I like the whole album. No way do I love it like ...And Justice for All which is my favourite, but I like it the more I listen to it.

I'd say my favorite tune was 'All Nightmare Long.' the video was pretty freakin' trippy, too.

I don't Metallica can ever redeem themselves after all these years of defecating around. Death Magnetic was okay, but there isn't anything extraordinary here.

I might cop it for this but it seems like there is alot of ill sentiment towards St Anger...I thought it was flawed but much better, braver than folks gave it credit for... it touches on some really tough mental / emotional issues, and it dares to mess up the typical or expected Metallica sound... by comparison Death Magnetic is pretty conservative or even a backwards step...
