Death Magnetic

I hope it doesn't end up being another St. Anger, or anything like it. I'm happy that the band got rid of Bob Rock too.

The mission Metallica site is also a pretty neat Idea, and there is lots of stuff you can get from it.

15Steps 08-17-2008 01:56 AM

if this album is anything more than utter ****, i will eat my drum kit. live on cam.

Piss Me Off 08-17-2008 04:43 AM

Here's a new song, Cyanide.

whiplash 08-17-2008 01:51 PM

it's not bad, better than anything from st. anger anyway, the unforgiven III should be good...hopefully

lucifer_sam 08-17-2008 05:38 PM

Gyah...I got bored with it pretty quickly.

Piss Me Off 08-18-2008 04:10 AM

I'm not going to judge too soon because it isn't the studio version, but this ain't promising.

whiplash 08-21-2008 06:55 PM

just heard the first single...it was pretty good

jackhammer 08-25-2008 03:52 PM

I will give the album a listen but the single does'nt seem to be all that. I think they have to hold their hands up and say that their time is gone. How is this any different to what's out there?

Piss Me Off 08-25-2008 04:01 PM

The single isn't too terrible, it's not that memorable though.
I noticed they didn't play any new songs at Reading/Leeds, that normally doesn't bode well does it?

Demonoid 08-25-2008 04:06 PM

'The day that never comes' single was boring. I did like the solo though, but overall, more or less a yawn-fest.

Well, like most others here, I'm goona DL and check it out first. Hope they don't sue me :D

Demonoid 08-26-2008 11:06 AM

My Apocalypse wasn't all that bad. Definitely their best so far. Sounds a lot more thrashy although nothing like RTL/Kill Em All.
But still, i liked it!

spark10036 08-26-2008 11:39 AM

Just listened to the 1st single "The Day that never comes", and I liked it.their best song for almost 18 years....
it actually sounds like old Metallica songs put together but it's still pretty good

jackhammer 08-26-2008 06:20 PM

Listening to this latest batch I am struck by the notion that despite the odd foray into speed, Metallica are a frustrated NWOBHM band and now and again they reach those aspirations.

Ace 08-26-2008 08:36 PM

I've heard Cyanide. Not too impressed with the first verse, or the "suicide" part of the chorus. But the riff is pretty damn good. Overall, it's alot better than the single and alot better than most of the songs from St. Anger. I'm likin' it so far. I'll check My Apocalypse soon.

Change it to the Black Album and a few more listens and i may agree with you!

Ace 08-27-2008 10:50 AM

My Apocalypse is the first thrash sounding song I've heard them do in years. It kicks ass. I hope the rest of the album has songs that will equal to this one.

Ace 08-27-2008 09:31 PM

My Apocalypse (From Metallica's Death Magnetic)

Not sure if this is the best thread for this.
Has anyone heard the track "My Apocalypse" off the new album?
It's the best thing they've done in a long time, in my opinion.
You can find it on YouTube if you want to listen.
Sounds the closest they've been to thrash since the late 80's.

What does everyone else think about it?

Edit: Thanks for moving the thread, boo boo.

Ace 08-27-2008 11:54 PM

Amen to that. Just listened to that album a few minutes ago, actually.

psylocke 08-28-2008 12:57 AM

I still love the songs in their black album..

Ace 08-28-2008 01:41 AM

So do I. Have you even heard this song, or did you just vote for the heck of it......then again, someone else could have voted. Meh.

Mordoth 08-28-2008 01:44 AM

Is Metallica still a band? That's awesome. \m/ I thought they died 15 years ago.

Ace 08-29-2008 11:11 PM

Something tells me they will still be going in another 15 years.

And something tells me they'll only release about 2 albums in that time :D

Ace 08-30-2008 05:32 AM

More than likely. It's been atleast about 5 years for every album lately.

lucifer_sam 08-30-2008 11:33 AM

I didn't think that it was that great, but it also brought back the classic sound. I wanted to hear more of a scream from James but it's definitely an improvement on St. Anger.

Ace 08-30-2008 03:26 PM

Oh really? Do they have it in mp3 format?
I haven't heard anything but Cyanide, My Apocalypse and The Day That Never Comes.
And yeah, I'm glad they tuned everything back to E-flat and brought back some of the thrash sound.

Ace 08-30-2008 03:42 PM

Ha, sweet. Thanks, I'll check it out now.

Ace 08-30-2008 04:14 PM

Holy hell, Batman =|

That is impressive....
Those new riffs are off the chain.....man, now I can't wait on this album ^_^

Ace 08-30-2008 04:53 PM

Yup. I'm glad they've gone back to a more "Metallica" style of music.

The Unfan 08-30-2008 08:55 PM

So far I'd consider it the worst track off the album. The drums are lacking in oomph and the vocals are very unfitting.

Ace 08-31-2008 12:08 AM

You've got to be kidding.....what do you prefer, St. Anger?

No, but the comparison is also lost. I specified "this album" meaning so far from what I've heard off of Death Magnetic I find My Apocalypse to be the worst. None of it has really impressed me yet, but The Day That Never Comes at least has a halfway decent solo. The reason none of it has really impressed me is because the drums are always either underwhelming or too much, and it takes away a lot of the feel from the riffs. Also, My Apocalypse is poorly put together, the riffs seem to jump around sloppily as opposed to flowing into one another. Its a train wreck of decent ideas.

As far as St.Anger, I'd consider it Metallica's worst release to date.

Ace 08-31-2008 02:15 AM

The solo in The Day That Never Comes jumps around.......My Apocalypse just seems like it fits in well with the song.

I will agree with one thing.
When I heard the single for the very first time, my first thought was..."Man, they have those drums waaayy too hot in the mix." I think it would be better toned down a bit, but I love what I've heard so far.

Demonoid 09-01-2008 03:54 AM

Here's a 10 song preview.
10 Song Preview
Still, My Apocalypse seems the most convincing and that's the last track :(
Wasn't all that bad though overall.

Ace 09-01-2008 04:11 AM

The second song sounds like it'll be very good. Atleast music wise.

Ace 09-01-2008 11:23 PM

schweeeet

You fucking tease. I really want them to make a kick arse album and give a big two fingered salute to the doubters. I have got my disappointed pill ready with my glass of scotch.

Piss Me Off 09-02-2008 04:19 PM

All i've found is a blog in the last half hour saying 'stay tuned tonight'.
Teases indeed!

lucifer_sam 09-02-2008 04:20 PM

Make sure you can take it with alcohol, man. I took a distraught pill with a bottle of whine and ended up far too depressed to finish it.

jackhammer 09-02-2008 04:21 PM
