French Rock Bands

Hey everyone, Recently I've been looking up bands from Europe and I found a few from France I really liked and was wondering if anyone knew any other good ones. The ones I have are...

Superbus
Naast
The Plastiscines
Vegastar
Kyo
AqME
Eths

ikvat 12-24-2008 06:30 AM

Hup
You can give a look at Dagoba.

ikvat 12-24-2008 06:57 AM

You can look at Gojira too.

Just one precision, none of those bands can be classified as Country, Folk or World Music.

Dr. Psycho 12-24-2008 08:47 PM

France has a great extreme metal scene these days.

Arkhon Infaustus
Deathspell Omega

Hell Militia
Vorkreist
Blut Aus Nord
La Division Mentale

All great bands.

Not really an expert on French rock, but I caught Dionysos once on French TV when staying over in Lille, loved them so much that when I got back to Mancunia, I bought a couple of their albums. Have to say Monsters in Love is a quality album, wished they'd tour England soon, really want to see them.

One word.

Magma.

ikvat 12-25-2008 09:55 AM

Magma is a little bit prehistorical and elitist and it's not my generation. I'm born to music with bands like Kas product, Martin dupont, Trisomie21...

Kas product

Trisomie21

Good old stuffs from The kas product - > Never Come Back (on youtube)
Trisomie21 -> The Last Song (on youtube)

How is Magma elitist? They are barely known outside of prog head circles and not your generation? Good music is good music whatever the time frame.

Magma may not be a band of this generation, but they were pretty ahead of their time in the first place, their music really does sound like it's from another planet, which was the idea, their music sounds so ancient, complex yet primitive.

The only french I ever heard (and liked) in a song was Dave Mustaine's Tout Le Monde..:thumb:

Noir Désir

Luce44 01-30-2009 11:29 PM

Ikvat! I do not know you but I love you for posting the Noir Désir song! I spent the past 14 months in Wallonia studying and I heard this song two or three times in the bars and I could never find out the name of the band or the song title. I have spent a good amount of time trying to find this and I was just about to ask for suggestions. It must be my lucky night! Merci beaucoup!

But the title of the thread is "French Rock Bands" therefore the topic of interest is bands from France :usehead: :)

I'm sure there's a thread somewhere discussing German bands, but you'd have to search.

As for French bands, Magma pwns

Project Orange is pretty good.

ElephantSack 06-12-2009 06:00 PM

Is it true what I heard about Gojira being the biggest musical act to ever come out of France?

almauro 06-12-2009 07:41 PM

Massacra was a great thrash/death metal inbetween(er) in the 90's. They were like...the only ones in France.

frenchy 11-03-2010 06:16 AM

sorry but i am not yet allowed to post sites...Here you can fin french rock bands if you google Γαλλικό ροκ και ραπ
but... there are also reggea and rap french songs
Enjoy them

There are plenty of songs WITH the lyrics. It's a greek site.

If you google Ομιλείτε γαλλικά! / French Track of the Day
you will find other french songs from the page 17 and next
Some of them rock it...Though, most of them are pop rock

They're Canadian, not French.

A few more that spring to mind:

Gojira
Deathspell Omega
Alcest
Lantlos
Les Descrets

Year Of No Light is a great atmospheric doom metal band from Bordeaux, France

Ska Lagos Jew Sun Ra 11-04-2010 11:04 PM

Art Zoyd is a pretty damn amazing band:

dankrsta 11-05-2010 05:19 PM

^^Art Zoyd has been on my 'to hear list' for a while. These tracks are great, especially the first and the last one, and while the first was what I expected them to sound like, the last one surprised me. Needless to say, Art Zoyd has moved up the list, for sure :)

@bob. Year Of No Light sounds really good. Never would've guessed it was a doom metal band. It's very spacey and spread out. Is that generally a strong characteristic of doom metal?

Ah they put out an album this year, I need to really get on it. I always thought of them more as a sludge metal/ post-metal band, more so the latter. The atmospheric and ambient nature of their work mirrors a lot of other post-metal bands like Rosetta, Neurosis, and Cult of Luna, but the genre label is pretty ambiguous.

dankrsta 11-05-2010 05:43 PM

^^Thanks LoathsomePete, I guess you answered my question. I really need to look more into the post-metal genre. I like Neuroses from what I've heard, the Rosetta track you submitted for the space compilation was great and now this. I think you made A Beginner's Guide to post-metal, if I'm not mistaken. Maybe it would be a good idea to start from there.
