This is somewhat out of context, but what is the best songs/album to listen to by ATDI. I listened to De-Loused to death in highschool and love it, but I have only ever heard a few ATDI tunes.

The Mars Volta is great, but it seems a bit like they're trying too hard. For example, the random 6 minute ambient break in Cicatriz. It's completely unnecessary (and ruins the song IMO) and it seems like they put it in there to look "super weird and progressive".
See for me ATDI is generally harder than my tastes usually go for but the progressive elements of TMV really drew me in and got me to fall in love with the band.

Default Volta

I think that The Mars Volta seems more evolved maybe seems that Cedric and Omar may have felt held back a little in their old band....Both are good Volta is great....the guitars and vocals mesh together almost as one intense voice...I enjoy the Mars Volta greatly.

Yeah I also like the ambient bit.

Anyway I voted Mars Volta. Although I like both bands I definitely prefer to listen to The Mars Volta.

I have a newfond love for In/Casino/Out, because of the track 'For Now...We Toast'.

In/Casino/Out is amazing too. Too many people only like Relationship Of Command.

"Napoleon Solo", "Lopsided" and "Hourglass" are the best songs from that album, IMO.

The Mars Volta. I think maybe ATDI are a slightly more efficient band and do more with less, but TMV throw so much in, and even if it doesn't all stick it's much more interesting.

Definitely. The ambient section just drags on too long, it would have had a much stronger impact if they'd kept it down to about 2 minutes. Though, when the guitars do kick back in it's a big pay off.

The overuse of quiet ambience is what makes Frances my least favourite TMV album, although I haven't downloaded Amputechture.

Relationship of Command is the best album between the two but overall I prefer TMVs amazing consistency of their album's quality.

In/Casino/Out is so much better then ROC, ROC just has more stand out tracks that hook you immeadiatley, while ICO takes a few listens to really get into.
