All Time Favourite Pink Floyd Track?

Same criteria as The Beatles thread.

I am hoping this has'nt been done before. I will make an official thread when all the nominations are in ONE MONTH from today. Choose your track and explain why you chose it. I will then compile a MB top ten poll and use the best appraisals for each song in the top ten. GO.

'Dogs' from 'Animals' because I could not imagine life without ever hearing it again. I don't think I could cope:)

See Emily Play: Something about the (as David Bowie put it) Peter Pan quality of Syd Barrett's music has always been seductive to me and I think this is my favorite one he's done; it's playful yet oddly fragile.

If 'Dogs' was'nt so ingrained on my psyche (it has been there for 20 years) then a Syd era track would almost certainly be my choice.

Echoes for sure.

Damn I love both of those songs a ton. Dogs is definitly my favorite 'Animals' track, the intense and sarcastic Water's lyrics along with Gilmour's best soloing (maybe). The climax at the end is amazing, the last minute or so of the song.

And I really get the Peter Pan appeal, it is an awesome feeling in Barrett's music. Wayne Coyne and Robert Hitchcock put it best in this interview:

Quote:

Honesty

He was such a bright, unique freak in the early days. He’s just so perfectly genuine. You don’t get the sense he’s trying to be a star or shock you. He’s really singing from the heart of his mind. [WAYNE COYNE]

Most songwriters put a little of themselves into a song—enough to get by, enough to keep people happy and give the listener something to identify with. Barrett put his whole being and his camera angle in there. His songs are full of a life, his life. This intensity has carried the songs through time, with more momentum that they had when they were first released. [ROBYN HITCHCOCK]
Syd Barrett: Wayne Coyne and Robyn Hitchcock Pay Tribute

It's a nice quick read, especially if you like both the Flaming Lips and Barrett. :)

But ultimately my favorite song is Interstellar Overdrive.
It didn't used to be my favorite Floyd song, but overtime the essence and crazyness of the song just captivated me. Amazing piece of work. My second favorite would probably be 'See Emily Play' or 'Matilda Mother', love the lyrics and passion put into the singing.

Robyn Hith**** must have been majorly influenced by Barrett. At times he sounds a LOT like him.

Welcome To The Machine for sure.

Call this a cliche, but Comfortably Numb. David Gilmour is superb.

See Emily Play.
